He thinks that he can tell people he had a game of golf with Sean Fitzpatrick and the subject of the imminent collapse of Anglo Irish Bank was not brought up.
The same bank, which had no importance to 99.999999% of the population, which has been bailed out to the tune of billions at the expense of 99.999999% of the population. Higher taxes, fewer services, hospital waiting lists, carers, lack of investment in industry and infrastructure, and the fact this nation had to be bailed out by the EU and the IMF, are all attributable to the money poured into the Anglo pit. We might as well have set it on fire for all the good it’s done us.
And we’re supposed to believe these speculators, developers and bankers, up to their necks in loans, bonds and everything else, weren’t doing everything they could think of to save their skins? These men with such close links to the Fianna Fail party didn’t bend the ear of the Taoiseach during a game of golf? My hole.
Yet this is just more of the same. Bertie Ahern thought you were a stupid cunt too when he tried to tell you about the whip-around cash and that he, as Minister for Finance, didn’t have a bank account. He assumed you were thick as shit and you’d believe the explanations, vague as they were, about safes and briefcases full of punts and sterling that ‘friends’ of his happened to just give him because they liked him so much.
And Charlie Haughey did the same. He sat in his mansion, funneling cash from the state to fund his lifestyle, while telling us we needed to tighten our belts.
It’s the Fianna Fail way. And it’s worked for years. Why would they change now? I mean, it’s still working on the Greens who look even more pathetic as each day passes. If there’s a more spineless man in this country than John Gormley I’d be amazed.
The upcoming election is the only way we can fight back. While the alternatives don’t exactly fill me with joy and confidence, it’s about time we showed Fianna Fail exactly who the stupid cunts are.
