Jared Lee Loughner – grammar king

So the bloke that Sarah Palin got to shoot that Democrat lady put up some YouTube videos. He’s a stickler for good English.

Exhibit A

Then, in the next frame ….

Exhibit B

What is it they say? People in glass houses shouldn’t shoot Glocks. Or something.

  3. Dear Lord if poorly placed commas were bullets this guy would have committed suicide with a machine gun long ago. Shouldn’t it be ‘brainwash-ing methods’ too? Not to mention his disembowelling of the third conditional topped off with that dud of a participle that you spotted.

The man’s a butcher, no question of it.

Speaking of words, I couldn’t help finding it ironic that the massacre occurred outside a supermarket called ‘Safeway’.
‘Target’ might have been a bit more suitable, no?

How come all crazy American murderers have to have middle names.

The first reports named him as Jared Loughner. But soon enough, all the reports added the ‘Lee’ in the middle.

So what if his grammer aint proper. He feels good about himself and that is what is important in the American left leaning public school system.

I HAVE TO AGREE WITH YOUR SENTIMENTS LOCO – BUT AT THE SAME TIME…

IN THE MID EIGHTIES IN AMSTERDAM A GROUP OF US WERE TAKEN ON AN OUTING BY THE BOARD OF TRADE. A ‘TWILIGHT CANAL CRUISE’ WAS THE HIGHLIGHT. HOWEVER THE FOOD WAS LIMITED AND THE WINE CRAP. THIS WAS NOT A DEDICATED SET UP FOR US, WE WERE IN AMONG REGULAR TOURISTS AND VISITORS. WHILE EVERYONE ELSE WAS RABBITING ON ABOUT THE ART AND CULTURE AT THE VARIOUS STOPS ALONG THE WAY, ONE OF THE AMERICANS COMMENTED THAT THE MID-WAY STOP WOULD BE A GREAT SITE FOR ‘SOMEONE WITH A HOT DOG STAND’…IN OTHER WORDS HE SAW THE ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY IN A HEARTBEAT.

IT WAS THEN I REALISED THAT OUR OWN VAUNTED ‘CLASSICAL’ APPROACH TO EDUCATION WAS GOING TO BE A DISADVANTAGE IN THE NEW WORLD THAT WAS COMING AT US LIKE A TON OF BRICKS.

JUST AS WE LOOK BACK IN WONDER AT THE TIME WASTING EFFORTS PUPILS OF YORE PUT INTO LEARNING GREEK AND LATIN, SO NOW TOO MANY CURRICULAE IN EUROPE ARE HIDEBOUND AND INFLEXIBLE IN THE GLOBALISED ECONOMY.

LEARN IRISH IF IT’S WHAT YOU WANT -BUT THEN DON’T WHINE THAT IT IS ‘USELESS’ AND THAT YOU CANNOT GET A JOB THAT BRINGS IN A DECENT STANDARD OF LIVING.
THE US SYSTEM HAS UNDOUBTEDLY BEEN ‘DUMBED DOWN’ – BUT THAT IS ALWAYS THE CASE WHEN BODIES ARE NEEDED TO FUEL THE ECONOMIC UNDERTRAPPINGS OF NATIONAL PROSPERITY – CHEAP AND DESPERATE LABOUR.

THE TRICK IS TO ENSURE YOU LEARN THE SKILLS AND TECHNIQUES TO RISE ABOVE THE COMMON HERD AND ENSURE THAT Y0U CAN FUNCTION AT THE HIGHER LEVELS.
THIS DOES NOT MEAN AN MBA EITHER, BUT IT DOES ENTAIL BEING SMART ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO AVAIL OF AND WORK THE SYSTEM.

THE BEST LABOURERS I EVER EMPLOYED OVER HERE WERE STUDENTS WORKING THEIR WAY THROUGH PROTESTANT SEMINARIES – THEY WERE FOCUSED, AMBITIOUS AND UNDERSTOOD THAT AS LONG AS THEY GAVE ME FAIR VALUE THEY WOULD REMAIN VALUABLE TO ME. I NEVER HAD A DAYS WORRY ABOUT THEM TURNING UP FOR WORK AND DOING AN OUTSTANDING JOB WHEN THEY WERE LEFT TO THEMSELVES – AT THE SAME TIME I WAS LISTENING TO OTHER CONTRACTORS COMPLAINING ABOUT THE ‘LACK OF DECENT SEMI-SKILLED LABOR’ AND THEIR LABORERS COMPLAINING THAT THEY WERE ‘UNDER APPRECIATED’. I KEPT MY MAIN LABOR SOURCE TO MYSELF FOR SURE, BUT ALSO HEARD COMMENTS REGARDING THE UNDESIRABILITY OF HIRING ‘RELIGOUS NUTCASES’,'JESUS FREAKS’ AND SO FORTH. I DID NOT CARE WHAT THEY BELIEVED AS LONG AS THEY DID THE JOB THEY WERE HIRED FOR.

I PAID MY GUYS A DAMN GOOD RATE AND TREATED THEM ACCORDING TO THEIR OUTPUT AND DID NOT PLAY FAVOURITES OR DISCRIMINATE. IF YOU DID A PROPER DAYS WORK YOU DID NOT HAVE TO WONDER WHAT YOUR FUTURE HELD EITHER SHORT OR LONG-TERM

I GAVE UP ON THE IRISH EMIGRANTS FOR THE MOST PART – THE ‘SHURE ITS GOOD ENOUGH’ ATTITUDE WHEN IT CAME TO TASKS WAS NOT CONDUCIVE TO ANY OF US PROGRESSING ECONOMICALLY OR STRUCTURALLY.THE MONDAY MORNING HANGOVERS AND REQUESTS TO QUIT EARLY ON PAYDAYS WERE NOT SUBSIDIES I WISHED TO PAY FOR. THE WHINING ABOUT MISSING ‘THE CRACK’ BACK HOME WAS REPETITIVE AND SELF DEFEATING AND A DISTRACTION TO MY AMERICAN CREWS. THE ASTONISHMENT AND DISBELIEF THAT I WAS NOT GOING TO TREAT THEM AS ‘SPECIAL’ BECAUSE THEY WERE FELLOW-IMMIGRANTS BECAME TEDIOUSLY PREDICTABLE WHEN I WOULD CALL THEM ON THEIR BEHAVIOUR.

IF I NEVER HEAR THE PHRASE ‘YOU WOULDN’T GET AWAY WITH THAT BACK HOME’ AGAIN I WILL DIE HAPPY AS ENRAGED IRISHMEN FELT THEY WERE BEING HARD DONE BY – WITHOUT STOPPING TO THINK THAT THE TEN OR FIFTEEN OTHER WORKERS ON A SITE WERE VERY HAPPY TO WORK FOR ME.

AND BEFORE THE SPURIOUS SPECULATION AND INSULTS START FLYING, I PAID MY UNSKILLED LABORER $200 A DAY, IN CASH, FOR AN AVERAGE OF A SEVEN TO EIGHT HOUR DAY. I REGULARLY HAD HASSLES WITH OTHER CONTRACTORS WHO FELT I WAS ‘POACHING’ THEIR BEST WORKER BECAUSE I HAD A WAITING LIST OF THOSE ANYTIME I TOOK ON A BIG CONTRACT.

IN OTHER WORDS, I WAS WILLING TO WORK AND WILLING TO PAY OTHERS TO WORK BUT WAS NOT IN THE BUSINESS OF BLAMING EVERYTHING ON ANYONE BUT MYSELF OR PLAYING THE CUTE WHOOR BY GOING FOR THE SHORT TERM GAINS

YOU CANNOT REST ON THE LAURELS OF THE PAST AND EXPECT TO BE BETTER OFF TEN YEARS DOWN THE ROAD THAN YOU ARE NOW, AND A FEELING OF ENTITLEMENT DOES NO HARM IF YOU FIGURE THAT YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO LIVE DAMN WELL SOMEDAY AS LONG AS ITS MARRIED TO THE CONCEPT THAT YOU HAVE TO WORK FOR IT.

BOTTOM LINE, YOU CAN HAVE A FAIR SHOT AT ANYTHING YOU WANT…YOU JUST CAN’T HAVE EVERYTHING YOU WANT, AND THAT IS WHAT THE PRESENT SYSTEM BOTH HERE AND IN IRELAND FALLS DOWN AT GETTING ACROSS. YOU CAN LIVE A LIFE OF DRUNKEN MORNINGS BUT DON’T EXPECT TO ALSO DRIVE A BENTLEY.UNLESS OF COURSE THE MAMMY IS SUBSIDISING YOU, AS SO MANY OF YOU APPEAR TO OPERATE BY.

REMEMBER WHEN YOU HAD TO HAVE A GLOWING REFERENCE FROM YOUR PARISH PRIEST TO GET ANY KIND OF DECENT CAREER OPENING? THOSE DAYS ARE LONG GONE AND THE SENSE OF NOT BEING WORTH ANYTHING EXCEPT WHAT YOU WERE TOLD, EITHER OVERTLY OR SUBJECTIVELY, ARE THANKFULLY OVER IN PADDY LAND..BUT I AGREE THAT THE DIAMETRICALLY OPPOSITE SWING OF THE PENDULUM IS NOW OCCURRING, AS IN THE US EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM.

S0, BEFORE YOU FEEL SUPERIOR TO SOMEONE BECAUSE YOU ‘SPELL BETTER’ TAKE A LOOK AND SEE IF THEY ARE DINING AT THE RITZ WHILE YOU ARE DIGGING INTO A GREASY BAG OF FISH AND CHIPS FROM LUIGI’S FRIED FOOD EMPORIUM.

No, you will not see an immediate “yield” in terms of money but the overall result is infinitely more esthetic and rewarding for the individual AND the community.

But there people who don’t give a fuck about that but they don’t freeload either. They work enough for their modest life and a few pints. They’re as valid as anyone else and sometimes more so if they don’t intimidate others into their way of thinking.

Industry is important but so is intellectualism. Humanity needs a lay by in which to rest and reflect and re-group. That’s what intelligent debate and the arts is for.

  43. Crank says:

So Cowen thinks it alright that he and his pal Seanie had a game of golf and, because it was in full view of the public, nothing untoward was said. Obviously having read the Phoenix magazine for years he now believes that speech bubbles REALLY DO EXIST and that we can all see everything he says. Perfectly rational explanation under the circumstances.

  44. itchybollix says:

“As I confirmed this weekend, I did attend a golf outing in July 2008 organised by a friend Fintan Drury which Mr FitzPatrick also attended.”

You see you don’t have to be a ‘somebody’ to go for a round of golf with Brian and the best thing is there’s no annoying public servants hanging around taking minutes.

  50. itchybollix says:

    Hang on a minute

Fintan Drury was one of Brian Cowens PR advisors.

“I did attend a golf outing in July 2008 organised by a friend Fintan Drury which Mr FitzPatrick also attended.”

  69. Celery says:

I believe by “grammar,” he meant, quite literally, the definition of the word. The definition: “the branch of linguistics that deals with syntax and morphology (and sometimes also deals with semantics).”

I am neither right, nor left-winged, however, I do believe he is talking directly about our Constitution and how the people of District 8 are “illiterate” in grammar.

I believe he is insinuating that the United States Constitution has been construed to mean something that it really was not intended to mean by those who wrote it with the well-being of the people in mind.

I think if any left-winged person were watching the news, they would see these Tea Partiers throwing the word “Constitution” around, which actually has given them a bad rap and have made them look quite nutty. However, if you take away the nuts who are presenting this information (i.e. Sarah Palin) and think about it as a rational human being, one may begin to see that maybe there is something to this whole Constitution thing.

I admit that I was rubbed the wrong way about the right-wing motive, at first. I interpreted it as they wanted me to see the Constitution like it’s the Bible and is open for controversial interpretation, some even taking it to the extreme. We all know how the Bible makes us shudder if we are non-religious.

The left-wing played on this response of us and even helped add to the fire. Even though these Tea Partiers are not-so-favorable ‘characters,’ some even quite hateful, the liberal media did, in fact, pick this up as an opportunity to smear and discredit the right-wing faster and more successfully.

Fact is, people, we don’t have a left or right wing anymore, if we ever did. Things are not black and white. There is grey area. Think critically and study extensively. Oh, and pay attention to grammar, as in the way the words were intended to be read. There is no need to correct misspelled words. We are all smart enough to know what he meant. Cheers.
