€6bn has to be cut from spending and services. That’s a lot of spending and services. As well as the cuts there will be increases in tax. Income tax, property tax, water tax, air tax, tax tax, tax tax tax, it’s all on the way.
But how much can you take? How much can anyone take? Batt O’Keefe is crowing about the unemployment figure going down. How many of those people have just left to find work somewhere else?
The one thing that I just can’t escape, that I cannot get out of my head, is that this €6bn, which will leave so many people in this country worse off (not just financially either), doesn’t even come close to the money we’ve pumped into Anglo Irish Bank.
We’re being asked to pay for the greed and crimes of a select few. I know we know this but it bears repeating. And I’m not sure I’m willing to do that. As there’s no way of changing what’s going to happen, as they’ve dug us all into a big hole, what option do we have? Sit there, take it, and repay the debts of high-rolling gamblers, or what?
Any kind of protest against the Revenue will mean a lifetime of grief from the Revenue. Take it or move on.

It should take the Revenue and the department of ‘Social Protection’ an hour or less to give the total breakdown (by PPS number) for employed/unemployed (claiming and non-claiming) / fulltime education / CE Schemes etc. If they did it on a monthly basis they could track the emigration effect very closely.

The entities that loaned to Anglo were not naive school children. They knowingly lent to Anglo being fully aware of the risk involved with the property bubble in Ireland. We the people did not have a laser or ATM card for Anglo Irish Bank. This was not a people’s bank; this was a cosy cartel for developers. We the people would have never benefited from the Anglo cartel profits, in fact we were negativity affected by these fat cats driving up the price of starter homes, making it near impossible for an average couple to afford a new home.
Why are we the people paying the debt of tycoons that employ specialist accountants to ensure that they themselves pay only 5% tax?
I would vote for any political party that told the lenders to Anglo that your investment was based on risk, and with all risk your investment can rise as well as fall.
