Student protests

It’s all kicking off. Or has kicked off and is finished now.

Gardai have gone in with batons. Students have responded by peacefully singing that ‘If I lay here … ‘ song by that bunch of cunts.

I’m no fan of students – I was one once so I speak from experience – but what odds on the protest being hijacked by the usual pack of ne’er-do-wells?

So it is a Facist Dictatorship we live in.
C’mon lads one last hoo ha for Fachtna before he retires. See him of with a bang… and a whallop and a fucking smack over the head for you, ye little runt!

    Cunts the lot of ‘em

  2. maggot says:

In a quandary here – students should, on principle, be baton charged by police.

On the other hand this is a cuntish Government.

The only way round this would be if having baton charged and rid the place of students the Garda did a sit down protest against the government.

    That would work.

  3. Ass-per-usual says:

“Around 50 students are sitting on the ground and chanting. A speaker with a megaphone stressed that it was a peaceful protest.”

There’s nothing ne’er-do-well going on here, looks like guards are just trying to send a message. Protests, even peaceful ones might buy you a crack over the head so stay away!

  4. Twenty Major says:

Sitting on the ground is, in itself, an act of extreme provocation.

I can’t bear people who sit on the ground

  5. killemall says:

Not surprised really by the cops. They’ve been undergoing 6 day ‘intensive’ riot training all over the country recently. A friends brother is one & he was saying how it was full on, petrol bombs & the whole shebang. Another friend watched them practicing on Sligo racecourse. No doubt training to protect the restored tent at Galway next summer. No point in learning how to batter heads unless you’re going to do it. They got new gear around this time last year so that needed to be blooded. The most cuntish government ever.

The OAPs won’t take any of their shite though, it’ll like braveheart when the mounted cops charge into them & get skewered on extended zimmer frames, “You can take our life, but you’ll never take our bus pass!”

  6. Crank says:

I propose giving all the protesters Guinness – The Black Velvet Revolution.

  7. Holemaster says:

    Last week:
“Look at those French protesters, why aren’t we on the streets?”

    This week:
“Look at those fecking trouble makers, bloody disgrace’

    Make your minds up!

  8. Icarus says:

The naysayers are sounding a little JoeDuffy-ish.

”USI is saddened by the actions of a small minority of people who staged a sit-in protest at the Dept of Finance, shortly after the USI protest march today”

Fucking hell. The French equivalent would be burning the place down if it got through the doors.

The USI thinks a student sit-in does not go well with its leaders future political aspirations in FF, FG and Labour. Shower of cunts all round.

  9. Holemaster says:

RTE was exceptionally pro-cop in their news bulletin. Big surprise there.

  10. Rick rolling says:

  11. rapmachine no diggidy no doubt says:

baton charge? really? fucking hell. what are the stinking layabouts moaning about now? has carol voderman quit countdown? [/90s humour]

  12. Crank says:

I’m sure the IMF and European Central Bank mandarins were peeved at having to vacate their offices in the Department of Finance.

    but this confirms it

  14. ladinhand says:

i was at it, the only trouble i saw was from those eirigi cunts and from a few crusty looking fuckers, not students. it was good to be out there and feel like i had a voice for once.

  15. Christy says:

Do you think it will be an isolated event or the start of something bigger?

  16. Rt. Hon. Mr. Fink says:

Smash them, smash the Gardai, smash the city centre up, smash everything.

  17. Ass-per-usual says:

“Sitting on the ground is, in itself, an act of extreme provocation.

I can’t bear people who sit on the ground”

Showing up in full riot gear to a completely justified and peaceful protest is the biggest provocation of all.

These young peoples continued ability to afford their education depends on ‘fighting’ for it. Being a nuisance is the only real weapon they have in their arsenal bar violence.

Unless they’re OAP, people always seem to be villanised in this country for making any sort of protest, even when their demands are totally reasonable like now.

  18. Twenty Major says:

    those eirigi cunts

They are cunts of the highest order

  19. Jo says:

Yeah, I don’t think the students were the ones causing any trouble, and therefore, not the ones getting hit in the head, it seems to have been Socialist Workers’ Union and Eirigi.

The only issue I have with this is the complaining about the idea of paying two and a half grand and now they’re pronouncing things like ‘people will have to decide which child to send to college’: I went to college before it was free, and my family paid a lot more than two and half grand a year (poor bastards, some investment that was).

  20. Jo says:

As to the riot gear, I heard a couple months ago, the gardaí were in riot training mode in Templemor. They must be gagging to put it into practice.

  21. Icarus says:

    Exactly Jo.

Not that I sympathize with the Eirigi crowd, I hopethey were seeing little green stars after a good clubbing.

The gardai definitely had the goo on for a bit of skronching.

  22. ladinhand says:

i think the issue people have with it jo is that they bang on about the smart economy one minute then up fee’s and slash grants the next. it will lead to people leaving college and then probabily leaving the country. maybe thats what they want?

  23. JohnF says:

Never mind all that bollocks – I couldn’t have my usual evening straightener pints before I went home this afternoon for all my favourite haunts being full of bleedin’ students ‘celebrating’ their great moral ‘victory’ and waving off their unwashed cousins back to the country on tour buses – a great day for publicans and bus operators no doubt about it.

  24. Silla says:

To see the cops baton charging what seemed to be a non-violent protest just typifies the attitude of the powers that be towards the citizens of this country.
It’s like if you dare to complain at the way things are being done, you get a hiding.

I don’t remember the taxi drivers who regularly hold the city to ransom ever being baton charged.
Typical, the cops are cowards who always go for the easy target.

  25. itchybollix says:

7.6% vig; sinn fein fighting for our democratic rights; michael lowry , a fucking knacker tax-evading cunt – elected. Everybody should be made to drop acid and/or hit the hills for mushies to get a dose of morality. All married with kids people I know have voted FF and PD and have never dropped acid. There’s a correlation there…

A man with a wife and kids killed himself around here the other day. 6 people from the class of 19** have killed themselves in the last 2 years around here. That’s probably fuck all compared to other towns.

This goverenment is hiding in the bunker tonight. Probably talking to their lawyers. Just fucking resign. Greens. Please pull the plug from this financially and morally corrupt Fianna Fail/PD fuck-up.

Michael Lowry propping up a financially corrupt Fianna Fail/PD government. It works on so many levels and makes me think that Bertie Ahern and the fucks who voted for him deserve what they get and we deserve our revenge. LKJ sang that “England is a bitch” – I’m singing ” Ireland is a sewer”. Thanks Bertie and all you cunts who voted FF/PD.

This is The Clash; feels like clash time. I’m not going to rant on about the pigs. But I will say one little thing. That post from Channel 4 news earlier. That shit goes on here from street cops making arrests and/or harrassing people. It’s an inbred culture “untouchable” irish cops are the most corrupt bunch of cunts in first world society. fact.

I’ll buy a few pairs of shoes for the simon community on the w/end for letting me puke that one out twenty

  26. Jo says:

yeah. It’s dismal. Actually, my husband was saying he saw a taxi driver get stopped by two gardai the other day, and the dirver got out of the car and gave them a rant and a half, and they just stood there and took it like they couldn’t really argue.

I’m glad students still go protest though.

I remember being ao na bus in town once, and hearing one young lad asking his friend if he was going to the protest the next day, and his mate was shyly enthusiastic, and said, ‘it’s like the 70s!’ in a sort of self deprecating manner.

Sure, times have changed. But it makes it shittier that they were so ready to charge in, when you think about that sort of naivety and innocence.

It’s a pity the police themselves are so willing to accept the status quo for what they get out of it.

  27. Icarus says:

Perhaps its a sign of things to come. The next student/taxi-driver/farmer/union protest will maybe push things further.

In about 5 years protests will be so violent that the government will crumble and…oh wait

  28. itchybollix says:

This one goes out to Jo. Gives me hope that the fucks in positions of power will in one way or another pay their due.

What they get out of it Jo is total power. If you ever fuck with a cop – and when I say fuck with a cop I mean speak to him as an equal- you are fucked. That taxi driver is fucked now.

    fixed it.

I dunno. Cowen can’t come out and say “we’ll have the donegal one but not the others”

Michale Lowry and Fianna Fail are having sex. It’s fucking sick. The government is scum.

    An abomination I tell ye!

maggot; that’s your kind of lingo, innit? Hell and all that jazz.

  31. Holemaster says:

Apparently watching the RTE news and Frontline is the latest craze in Dublin’s Sado-Masochism clubs.

  32. Conan Drumm says:

The dog unit+The mounted unit+The riot squad = the establishment’s response to legitimate protest. The eyerygeeswpees can go fuck themselves.

  33. Crank says:

So the government are going to move the writ for the election but also appeal the decision to the Supreme Court.

Yesterday they didn’t care about the constitution in relation to by-elections, today they do.

One wonders, if the judiciary is not allowed to be the watchdogs of government, who is?

  34. Holemaster says:

The judge was highly critical of the government. He implied that if a similar case came in front of him again he would use more draconian measures. I take that to mean a dissolution of the Dail by court order. Is that possible with our constitution?

  35. divneymathers says:

Any protest is good protest at this stage.
It takes youth to get it kicking off.

  36. I’d say he meant the High Court could move the writ themselves and no need to go near the Dail. The court has the power to order the writ be moved for an election.

Also, and quite interestingly, the judge has the option to award monetary compensation to Pearse Doherty as compo for having his human right to an elected TD taken away.

We’re almost in Jonathan Swift territory now. Which is grand ‘cos at least he was a Dubliner.

All the Fianna Fail cunts are whinging about the seperation of powers in a democracy between the judiciary and the legislative assembly.

Funny- I always understood that Fianna Failers thought democracy was what spilled out of the party arse in the morning after a ‘strategy session’ in a bar belonging to one of their mates.

Cunts wouldn’t know democracy from a hole in the ground and the vast majority of them wouldn’t stand a chance of explaining it.

We need another Famine. And this time it should be targetted.

    hahahah

crank I thought you were kidding about the appeal. they are fucking unbelievable.

GREEENS PLEASE IF YOU ARE LISTENING…GO.

This crowd in power are pure scum. The judge is brave, he better start scrambling his phone

  39. Holemaster says:

I just read articles 13, 16 and 20 of the Irish Constitution (every home should have one) and I can’t really see what the courts can do unless the Taoiseach doesn’t have a majority. I suppose they can be very annoyed and say now now and simmer down.

What exactly are they appealing to the Supreme Court?

  40. itchybollix says:

plus rte reports the story like a police report in court. ” the government will hold a bye-election forthwith”….who the fuck says forthwith? plus, again- the headline should report that the cunts are appealing; not that they’re observing a court observation…as if we should be grateful that the governemt is upholding democracy after getting told to by a court. which it is appealing. Swift would even be astonished captain; i notice the cops dragged a girl out along her legs. brave men

  41. itchybollix says:

here’s a snap of my copy with a michael jackson sticker hm. i think they make sense together now that i look at them

i’ll browse later. law is another area that the cunts use to keep themselves scumming away

  42. itchybollix says:

If I was Prez I’d introduce article 69. and 99.

  43. itchybollix says:

look at the little nodge of hash under the ctrl key. it’s gone now. jaysus. this key board is fucking manky. sorry about that.

  44. Fluther Good says:

Riot gear, the dog unit and horses to deal with 15 people sitting in is bollocks. Watch it on RTE website, their throwing the odd placard and bits of card, you hear a guard shouting ‘draw your batons’. I was on marches 20 years ago where there’d be pushing and shoving, today was no worse. Back then a superintendent would calm things down, we’d all fuck off, no batons drawn.
Don’t be bemoaning the fact that the Irish don’t protest and we’re letting the FF/PD junta fuck us up the arse and then when someone does protest slag them off.
By the way RTE’s news report was a disgrace (web footage better).

  45. Holemaster says:

    Shit.

The constitution (16.5) states that the Dáil term can be no longer than seven years. The current term under law is five years. That means they could change the law and revert to the constitutional seven years and not hold an election until 2014.

Considering they’re doing all they can to hold onto power, this is quite a likely scenario. Four year plan? 2014?

  46. itchybollix says:

no way. they’ll be gone soon. Hopefully a green will get religion over xmas and do the right thing

  47. itchybollix says:

    heh

i saw only one photo of it where she was strolling along with no shovel. didn’t know it was this good, shovel makes the photo

    http://i53.tinypic.com/9hu9o2.jpg

  48. Crank says:

That footage of the protest was pretty fucking scary. Note the tactic. Wall of riot shields opens and a Guard comes through and grabs someone for doing nothing except sit on the ground. That they would do that to girls is despicable.

I heard there were a lot of injured students in DIT afterwards, many without shoes which had been taken from them by The Man. Well done Gardai, another PR success.

  49. maggot says:

That they would do that to girls is despicable.

    It’s called equality.

The Students were there looking out for themselves – if the government hadn’t dared bump up fees they wouldn’t give a damn – in the same way as FF look out for themselves.

As for those involved with SWP and eirigi ?
Lie down with dogs and you get fleas,

  50. Mosheen says:

Tactic my bollocks. That’s first year G7 protest shite. Cops with baseball caps, cops with uncovered heads and the fuckers in the riot gear taking on a few confused kids who grew up listening to shite about the Celtic Tiger. Anyone who’s been around any length of time knows the Gardai have no balls. Try that shit around O’Malley Park.
USI had the opportunity 1. to deny support for those students or 2. scream bloody murder at the authorities for battering them. No fucking balls either.
if right was right, that video itself should bring people screaming to topple the government. They are threatening the people with riot gear for a sit-down “imagine what we’ll do if ye really get marchy”
A country swamped in corruption and debt sets the batons on it’s children because they want to express their disgust at pulling funding from the single resource Ireland has: it’s educated workforce.
    I’m annoyed.

  51. GLUAISTEAN says:

  53. Jo says:

    Well said, Mosheen.

  54. Kettle Face says:

    Eirigi – Hairy Gee?

  55. Dominic LaVinca says:

The Irish Times (ex-PD editor, natch) and RTE’s coverage was government propaganda. There’s lots of youtube and RTE stuff now that shows there was no need at all for dogs and horses. They are shitting themselves: pity the ordinary guards that have to get stuck into neighbours/relatives over this. And the fuckers won’t even let those Daniel O’Donnell/Packie Bonner merchants have their fucking election 18 months on!

  56. itchybollix says:

agree; well said mosheen. we’ll put you up the front!
