He’s knobbled the truck too. Cut the electrics and brake cables and the doors have been welded shut.
Fair play, more of this sort of thing, please.
The man has been arrested. There should be public support of his actions before he is charged with anything.

More of this required indeed.
Seems this truck was out and about in Galway last April. Left outside an Anglo branch with engine running and doors locked.
http://www.politics.ie/current-affairs/127033-anglo-cement-truck.html
absolute legend. more thought and planning went into that than anything the government has done for years. hopefully this is only the start
Fair fucks to him.
He should have filled it full of excrement and emptied it all over the Dail
The first day back at work after a 13 week holiday is bound to be trying.
It took balls alright, but it won’t change a thing this side of 2012. I’d wonder about his mental health tho- to fixate to that degree on those worthless fucks doesn’t strike me as particularly clear headed. Now, had he filled it with fertilizer and fuel oil…
His big mistake was not having Seanie Fitzpatrick chained to the grill.
Thats it,have a good fucking laugh, this man at least had the balls to make his statement. If all the whingey moaning fucks out there got up off their arses and did somethng similiar,or worse, then we might just get things moving in the right direction and get rid of the fucking political parasites that have destroyed this country.
Up with this sort of thing! But fear not concerned citizens, the Gardai will have the offending veh-icle removed before any of our overworked TDs arrive.
Heard a rumour that the army have had their leave cancelled around the time that the next budget will be announced. Also they 300k worth of riot equipment earlier this year. It was explained as being neccessary for the nature of the mission in places like Kosovo. The only thing is they’ve no troops abroad any more.
We need more of this… We need sustained protests and I don’t care if it is hijacked by Eirigi and the loonies, let them riot. We need to reach critical mass, and if broken windows and gates and the odd burned out ministerial Merc is what is required, I say go for it.
Simple message; We want an election
“If it had been later in the morning, staff could have been killed, public could have been killed,” said Mr O’Dowd (Fine Gael TD).
Fuck off O’Dowd with your hypothetical nonsense. It’s wasn’t later and nobody was killed. This man is protesting not trying to kill people. Sean Fitzpatrick’s greed has killed people.
Fair play to that man. I hope more and more of this happens.
Sean Fitzpatrick’s greed has killed people.
Did you see the story in the paper last weekend (I think) about a front-line manager in Anglo who committed suicide because of the constant hammering he got from the public coming into the bank?
Yes and it’s barely been mentioned since.
The Clare herald dubs it a ‘Mortar Attack’ On Leinster House.
http://www.clareherald.com/news/3124-mortar-attack-on-leinster-house-protestors-march-on-dail.html
Fair go to the man. Its a pity it wasn’t filled with explosives and while the Dail was filled with TD’s debating how much pay they should award themselves.
Could have been the biggest cost-cutting exercise the state has ever seen.
Liveline should be interesting today.
Serious Garda resources are going to be put into ensuring that this does not escalate. You can be sure that this and other forums where folks give explicit support to actions of this kind will get attention from the ‘intelligence’ end of the force.
A man illegally parked a cement mixer outside the Dáil as a form of protest at around 7am and the Taoiseach says, “Very regrettable… thankfully no one was hurt…” the inference being that the man made an attempt to hurt other people.
He did not attempt to hurt other people, and only someone with an agenda to stir up fear and instigate hardline policing would deliberately attempt to suggest that.
Oh Joe Duffy will hype it beyond all reason. I can hear the conversation between Joe Duffy and Idiot Caller now…
JD: “Mmm, yeah, sighhh, and you could have been walking past with your messages at the time Josie and ended up under that big lorry”
ID: “But I never walk past there Joe”
JD: “Yeah but you COULD have been, you might have been, sigh”
ID: “Oh, eh I suppose I could have Joe, yeah, maybe”
JD: “You could Josie, anyone could have been killed by that maniac”
anyone know what time the demo is at?
When I heard this on the news this morning, it put a bit smile on my face. Fair fucks to the guy, took some balls!
Let’s hope it’s the start of something where we all get off of our backsides and do something that will take this shower of cunts out of power.
He had some Truck with the politicians.
Wah ha ha ha.
http://twitter.com/BrianGreene/status/25870000597
excellent. I heard James O’Reilly – one of my local FG TD’s who claims expenses which he is “entitled to – talking total shit about the incident on the radio this a.m.
That dude in the truck should put himself up for election but knowing this country you probably can’t get elected with a criminal record.
Don’t be surprised if FF politicians use this an excuse to get new security gates, double-glazing etc on their gafffs becsuse they’re “entitled” to it
It was only cement to be a peaceful protest.
Its a start. Maybe there is a sliver of hope. I notice on a few sites the usual suspects are out suggesting that the man should have, and I quote;
“been taken out one way or another”.
This is in a country where a third of the GDP has been stolen by less than 500 people to ensure news of their fraudulent relationship with a crooked bank doesn’t get out.
I’m fucking amazed senior Irish politicians haven’t been shot.
That dude in the truck should put himself up for election but knowing this country you probably can’t get elected with a criminal record.
Criminal record is no impediment to getting elected in ireland.
Look at Martin Ferris and several other gobdaws around the state.
“absailers on irish life HQ”
Irish life over on Abbey Street?
‘should have been taken out one way or another’???
For parking a truck illegally? As if that doesn’t happen all over the country every fucking day! Jesus.
Flaming bags of dog poo next? Bastardface?
Why do ppl here keep mentioning elections. As if putting more of these tits into office is the solution!!! I mean WTF? “If we keep doing what we’ve always done, we’ll keep getting what we’ve always got..” basic fuckin logic.. we need a NEW SYSTEM, not new poxy furniture to decorate it with..
And violence is NOT the answer! Waking teh fuck up to whats really gouin on in the world and reclaiming our Individual Sovereignty thru peaceful Non-Compliance is!!!
viva La Evolution…
There’s some real fucking morons on politics.ie
It’s so easy to spot all the young Fianna Failers with their blind condemnation of an act of protest, accusing him of being a nutjob, a looney, etc. That classic FF/FG attack on anyone who dares to speak out against the government.
Apparently the man has been released without charge but no doubt, a file is being sent to the DPP.
I hear the chap has been released without charge although unconfirmed by official sources as yet. Hope so. Maybe the Gardai have copped that coming down hard on this lad would be counter-productive in the long run. If so, good- someone has their thinking cap on in Garda HQ.
As for the issue of direct action I would agree it would be inappropriate where there was a working justice system which wasn’t bent towards allowing an ‘elite’ to operate under different rules to the average citizen.
Where such a situation exists the only advantage the citizens have over the ‘elite’ is in numbers, withdrawal/boycott and direct action.
its long past time in Ireland which is what’s really been bothering me and making me quite ashamed of the lack of action by Irish people.
“Fair play, more of this sort of thing, please.”
“More of this required indeed.”
“absolute legend”
“fair fucks”
“Up with this sort of thing”.. etc etc
This public forum has 1800+ readers. why dont we organise, start a party?
I’m with ya Cap’N, but we need to keep our heads on and be smart.. Most violent dissent is “manufactured” for the pupose of justifying more Authoritarian rule. Check link below for more on that sneaky shit..
If the larger populace is to be woken up and stirred into action they must be handled with kid gloves.. their just not ready for it, so will use any excuse not to take personal responsibility for whats happening!!! And violent scenes make them think everyone in protest is an angry headless nut! It just doesn’t work..
Oh yeah, forgot the link, lol.. :
http://globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=va&aid=21110
The problem is as Hermetic Poet points out above and quite rightly that starting a new party and entering the system under existing rules suits the people who currently own and run the system. Its designed to stifle dissent and blunt radical change.
I think at this time there is more to be gained by a widespread campaign group staying outside the system and blocking the system from operating- preventing evictions, civil actions to disrupt the working of the Oireachtas and so forth.
HP is right in that the system is bent- so why enter it?
Lest anyone suggest that I have only negative suggestions to offer I would put forward a positive way out of the current economic crisis by leveraging what political clout we have in Europe.
The PIIG nations of Portugal, Ireland, Iceland and Greece all have the power together to totally veto the European project the French and the Germans want and need.
I would suggest the PIIG nations’s Foreign Ministers meet and put forward a joint economic ultimatum to France and Germany that if they do not support a debt restructuring plan at IMF and ECB level then we will operate constitutional vetos and possibly even leave the EU en masse.
Thats the one political arena where we have leverage and can retain control of sovereignty.
Thats a positive suggestion just to relieve the idea I’m some sort of Cassandra who enjoys negativity only- its a political and economic possibility that may offer a way out.
Broadsheet.ie have a brilliant heading on their report;
Trucky ár Lá!
Some nice photos too.
Fair fucks dude.
Pity it wasn’y a slurry tanker or a rubbish truck.
Quite ironic really given the history of the modern Irish state (whatever the reality of that is) that a truck gets driven into Leinster House and there’s no exlosives in it.
We’ve let the memory of Charles Haughey and other island-buying charvet silk wearing patriots down.
Snuffle
I heard Cowen said ‘he seems to have been trying to make some sort of point’.
Does he think? Do you have to actually hit Cowen with a cement truck to get your point across?
I also heard the Icelandic Primeminister is being taken to court by the country for leading them into the banking crisis?
We are not as apathetic as you guys are making out.
Baby glove, but patronising, dont ya think???
the time for radical action, violent or other wise, has long come and past.
http://www.cynical-c.com/?p=9562
“There comes a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious, makes you so sick at heart, that you cant take part, you can’t even passively take part, and you’ve got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and you’ve got to make it stop! And you’ve got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it, that unless you’re free, the machine will be prevented from working at all!”
Capn, I may be wrong but I don’t think Iceland is in the EU.
As regards change, I believe a non-party ‘Charter for Public Office’ is one way to go, as a first move. The Charter would include a simple agreement on salary, receipted expenses, benefit-in-kind, annual compulsory Revenue audits, number of sitting Dail days etc, and an undertaking to apply the charter to all higher civil/public servants.
Non-party citizens draw up the Charter and persuade the electorate to only vote for those candidates who physically sign up to it, irrespective of party affiliation.
Blacklist all those who refuse to sign, and enter ‘Charter’ candidates in constituencies where party candidates refuse to sign up.
See, now, HM, that sort of gives the wrong impression of our noble protester.
I couldn’t resist Jo. I actually think he’s a national hero really. I’ll dig up some superman imagery and get to work.
Conan you are quite right to say Iceland isn’t in the EU but the leverage I’m referring to is the amount of money owed to other EU nations so a joint front of PIIG nations would have an effect.
Its a bit like the Sean Fitzpatrick technique- owe so much that people have to negotiate with you rather than cut you loose.
The Charter idea is a good one and I like the idea of a Chartist popular movement but I think any campaign that tries to work within the Irish political system at the moment will immediately become corrupted by that system.
I think we’re in Land League territory now and the resemblance between the Anglo-Saxon absentee landlords and the vested interests behind the current gombeen government bear a remarkable historical resemblance to those people. So they are their interests should be treated in the same way.
Will Ryan Rubbery have Cement Man on the Late Late Show? No he fucking won’t. Be he’ll have some Fianna Failer cunt on to talk about himself for no apparent reason.
‘So they are their interests should be treated in the same way.’? -Whaa?
I don’t believe you’ll find the answers in history. We need something new.
http://pirateparty.ie/
Yes, I’m drunk already.
In Brian’s less than sober state, he’d ordered the wrong type of mixers for the vodka.
Heh.
So it wasn’t Mary Lou desperate to get into the Dáil ?
I reckon they were trying to smuggle Harney in to vote on the first day of the Dail’s return.
There are three government mercs stranded outside Harney’s house with broken back axles.
Live blog of European protests:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/sep/29/european-protests-strikes-budget-cuts
Unless that truck contained orange foundation I reckon you can count Mary-Lou out.
(What is that stuff called? I can’t remember.
Interesting point made by “Odysseus” at P.ie
I’m intrigued by the support for this man from posters here when they don’t even know what his beef is.
Suppose he is a property speculator who can’t repay millions he borrowed from Anglo (now owed to the the taxpayers), will they be so supportive?
Can’t be. Its official government policy that having gone forward and turned the corner no-one lost any money at Anglo and because its systemic everyone in Ireland will get 5billion euros and a lollipop in the post by 2020.
Therefore its Simon Coveney’s fault.
I like that he went full A Team on the truck, welding the doors shut, covering the windows with metal mesh, cutting the brakes and electrics, all so it couldn’t be easily moved before the press turned up.
I’m in favour of this sort of thing. I like anger, I like disruption. It lets the govt know that people are motivated and won’t take it lying down.
There’s no point marching from the gardens of remembrance to the Dail. Try marching up and down the quays all day, see how that disrupts, see if that gets your message across. Try marching round the M50, or round the Red Cow. Try blocking the ports. Try blocking the trainlines. Fuck with people and make them angry. Only by pissing off the general public directly will you motivate them.
>We need sustained protests and I don’t care if >it is hijacked by Eirigi and the loonies, let >them riot.
Eirigi isn’t in the business of organising riots as far as I know. They’ve held countless demos up and down the country over the years (re: Anglo, Brit Queen visit, Shell/Rossport, etc) and they’ve all passed off peacefully. Excpet when the guards waded in and arrested/battered them. Nor would I describe them as loonies or hijackers. If thousands protest against Lizzie’s visit if and when she does come, will you accuse Eirigi of ‘hijacking’ that too, when a handful of them have been protesting about it outside Dublin city hall every time the Council meets for the last few months?? You may not agree with their politics, but at least they have the courage of their convictions and are prepared to get up off their arses to protest at the rape and pillage of this country by a golden circle of elite bankers, politicians, senior civil servants and speculators.
Eirigi are a shower of backward Cunts…
Spoken like a true Fine Gaeler, Fillie.
Nope,try again..
spoken like a true “I’m not telling you who I support but it certainly isn’t that bunch of fucking dinosaurs?”
Saw “This is England 86” last evening.
Last week , without having seen the ending, thought there were funny moments – but last night’s final episode was the most shocking thing witnessed on TV.
Scene between Lol and her da was horrific but compelling.
And when eventually she picked up the hammer, I implored her, from between my fingers, to “do it”
Éirigí are too political, too occupied with Northern Irish politics.
Most Irish people are put off by Republican left parties. They have the stink of IRA and INLA off them. People know that SF councillors can arrange to have certain anti-social types warned off. It’s very handy but it’s not right. It means they could do the same to you if they wanted.
It’s stopping more people coming out to march because they don’t want to be seen to be associated with those parties. They don’t want their bosses or their colleagues to see them on the 9 O’Clock News.
Oh no I pulled a tumbler again.
You sure did. Getting good at those. Maybe everyone’s out protesting.
No doubt about it. He got worked up watching Fox news and listening to Glen Beck’s anti government rants.
i’ve been out welding the doors shut on my motorbike in preparation
It’s escalating rapidly…
haha
“You can be sure that this and other forums where folks give explicit support to actions of this kind will get attention from the ‘intelligence’ end of the force.”
Twenty, if you end up some sort of 20th Century Eastern European style dissident political writer, mercilessly hounded and persecuted by his own government, I’ll happily hide you in the attic in exchange for posthumous publication rights to your inevitably tragic diary.
As an aside, this was on the news in the States in the morning on my drive into work. I would call that an effective protest for sure.
its long past time in Ireland which is what’s really been bothering me and making me quite ashamed of the lack of action by Irish people.
Well said Cap’n, I would be in absolute favour of a boycott/withdrawal of labour/refusing to pay taxes to get ALL of those corrupted shower of wasters/chancers and crooks out of Irish politics once and for all,and by ALL of them,i mean every last one of them no matter what party they belong to. If enda kenny is 30 years in politics, can anyone tell me 30 things he has done for this country in hat time. The point is that they are all one and the same, small minded local politicions who have no loyalty to the people of Ireland bar those, whose votes they depend on for re-election. C’mon people we need to get together to stop the rot and begin again.
With the way the politicians are goin’ on you’d think someone committed a mortar.
Nice one, Queenie. Refuge is always handy.
We are the rot though.
I’m merely aromatic.
Holemaster, even dry rot can be cured. If we dont get together as a unit, they will continue to rob and rape us forever into the future. I’ll bet the recession isnt felt or even thought about in the cowen and lenihan residences along with the rest of them, and how would it be when those bastards bring home thousands and thousands of euro a week.OUT OUT OUT. I am self employed and work my balls off to ultimately pay these pigs their wages whilst struggeling to put bread on my own table,I am thinking of witholding and refusing to pay all taxes until this shower are thrown out on their collective ears, with NO pensions or entitlements and if I end up in prison, well so be it.Someone has to start the ball rolling and our friend the cement truck driver might just have kicked it off.
Charles, I think a tax strike is a good idea. It would take serious organising. It would frighten the government a lot more than rioting. There’s plenty of people not paying themselves in order to keep their businesses open and their employees in jobs. I own a small business and it employs six people. We’re barely alive but we’re a good little business and I’m determined to keep it open.
The alternative is too grim to contemplate.
What is the good of dumping the current governing party if there is nothing better to replace it with? Forget your stupid ‘ lets get together with a bunch of other ” in the shitter EU countries” and work side by side with them to overthrow the system. If you can’t form an alternative party in Ireland to challenge ninety years of corruption you should just stay down the pub and continue patting each other on the back for how in tune with the political zeitgeist you all are. Just to focus your minds; Czechoslovakia 1989. The people brought down, not a bunch of fat over-priviliged oldboys-club pocket fillers but the communist party without a shot being fired. People got off their arses and took to the streets without regard for the cost to themselves their businesses or anything except making a change. And guess what? it worked.
Snifle I just saw that scene from that programme.. I’m sure the producers would tell you it was meant to be authentic and real, but it just looked like it was filmed by amatuers… multi camera angles and editing were invented for a reason. It was awful and I turned it off… horrible…
As for the protestor at Leinster house this morning, he was released due to a lack of concrete evidence.. (thank you moncrief, repeat)
