Many of our politicians are irritating in their own special ways. John Gormley, for example, by being John Gormley. Paul Gogarty for lacking the wit and intelligence to learn new words. Mary Coughlan for being the most powerful special needs pupil in the state and Leo Varadkar for his Smashy and Nicey diction.
Yet top of the pile is Mattie McGrath. His voice, I swear whenever I hear him on the radio my first thought is that I need to jam knitting needles into my brain. He makes me head malfunction so badly that this is the first thing I think of and not simply to switch the radio off.
He lost the FF party whip yesterday for voting against the bill to ban stag hunting. It’s good to know our politicians are such a principled bunch. They’re quite happy to set fire to €22bn of our money without so much as a snivelling remark yet they find their voice when it comes to cruelty dressed up as sport.
The people of Tipperary South would do well to remember that Mattie thinks being able to chase an animal to the point of exhaustion is more important than you, your money, your children’s money, their children’s money and so on. The future of our country is not as crucial as a bunch of tally-ho cunnies.
I heard him on the radio saying FF were being ‘bullied’ by the Green Party. In a world of tedious, retarded soundbites this takes the fuckin biscuit.
I suggest replacing any stags with fat, mindless politicians, chase them over vale and field, then stick a microphone in their face. I bet they won’t have as much to say then.
It’s very telling that local issues like that can split the party but national financial issues don’t.
The reason is this. The €22 Billion is an External matter. The international money industry dictates who gets what money at what price and whoever is in government is in the pay of these people. Quite often they are being blackmailed. These people do background checks on all government ministers and they know all their dirty secrets. So there is little if any dissent in the ranks as a result.
But the money industry don’t give a toss about internal issues like stag hunting which means politicians are free to voice their real opinions on the matter, hence the dissent and outpouring of built up frustration from unrelated issues. The Stag Hunting legislation was the NAMA for anger over the bailouts.
To summarise:
External: We have no control
Internal: We fight and squabble like tinkers.
“then stick a microphone in their face”
can think of more appropriate places to shove the microphone, and won’t make them sound any more retarded
True enough, porridge.
Quite often they are being blackmailed.
Do you think so?
Deffo.
I’d agree that the government as a whole is in some way blackmailed by more powerful countries, i.e. the USA, to toe the line or else find that some multinationals might decide to relocate, out of Ireland.
Took them ages to react to Israel using Irish passports for assassination teams, and when they did, it was just a light slap on the wrist.
Individual politicians being blackmailed? Could be. I bet assorted foreign spooks at the various embassies have complete background checks done on all T.D.s. Though it seems hard to shame an Irish politician.
Our benign presence in the world is very handy for other countries. Our Government is very accommodating of international business and questionable transactions.
Far more goes on here that anyone realises because nobody thinks to look. It’s always in the most unlikely places that the most unlikely things are found.
We’re masters at looking the other way and a lot of people around the world know that and use it to their advantage. I wouldn’t be in the least bit surprised if some civil servants here were involved in selling Irish passports to foreign agencies either for money or under instruction from certain ministers.
An Irish passport has always been available if you have the right amount of money
Thats right- a guy at the Irish embassy in London was caught flogging real Irish passports back in the late 80′s or early 90′s.
I definitely don’t like Tony Blair’s fucking progeny travelling on Irish passports either.
The Delta crew which set out to free the US hostages in Tehran in Carter’s day were all carrying Irish passports and none of them were Irish.
Irish politicians are like knackers when it comes to doling out favours for which they’ll want personal favours in return.
I’m pretty sure that there is a sizeable cohort of local, regional and national politicians who only went into politics to enrich themselves and to carry on the patronage system.
I know for a fact that a current Minister was as bent as its possible to be when he was a Councillor and I doubt much has changed. Indeed the evidence suggests he’s much worse now.
Mattie McGrath is undoubtedly a first-class fucker, but he is only small fry. Cowen is quoted on the front of the Irish Times thus: “We are going down to vote and I expect people to vote for the party”.
Not for what is right or the common good or even according to your own conscience – the party is all that matters.
THIS is why the political system is fucked and I can’t see any way out of it.
REVOLUTION NOW, STORM TH… oh… the ESRI says we’re out of recession. Oh look the world cup and it’s sunny out. Ah sure it’s grand. I’ll just lay down here and whimper the rest the rest of my life away.
Wasn’t there a fuss about Albert and his factory ?
HM’s point about blackmail is an interesting one.
Blackmail may be too specific a word here but there’s no doubt that the private and financial sector has always had ‘leverage with extreme prejudice’ over politicians. Be it through campaign contributions, pork barrel, personal favours or knowledge of past shenanigans the money-laden powerbrokers have always been able to unduly influence parliamentary decisions.
The Anglo farce was such a blatant case of putting investors’ interests over citizens’ needs that I wonder if there wasn’t more to it than FF just helping out their speculating pals. Cowan must have known that he was committing political suicide. I can’t help feeling that some bigwigs with a lot of money to lose in Anglo had him firmly by the balls and was threatening to squeeze. And when these bastards get cornered, they’d be inclined to use less carrot and more stick.
There is a very fine line between business and paramilitaries here. So if you’re a business man with a high profile and a lot of cash, you tend to have ready access to heavies (ex paramilitaries both nationalist and loyalist). If you fuck around too much with their interests, you’ll get a visit and you’ll be in doubt as to where you stand after it.
We’re mostly a country of muck savages because our legal system doesn’t give enough protection to small time businesses and the individual. The law won’t help you when some multi-millionaire owes you ten grand and won’t pay.
Politicians themselves have protection when they need it. It’s very seedy just under the surface.
‘in no doubt’ meant to say.
brian i am going to chace stag around the phoenix park’ ok john but you wont find him he knows all the hiding spots
Holemaster Says:We’re masters at looking the other way.
I think we’re masters at being told to look the other way,by our MASTERS.
Speaking of irritating politicians, can someone please explain why Jackie Healy-Rae keeps getting elected? His whiny, unintelligble monotone makes me want to slap something every time I see him. If this man ‘represents’ the electorate, we’re fucked!. Scarier still, JH-R2.0 is right behind him.
mattie, jackie et all would’nt find gainfull employment anywhere else in this country only in the dail, but is that not a reflection on us as a people/sheeple? Oh by the way brain cowen says the recession is over, great stuff.
JHR and JHR JR are just playing the old ‘We’re one of you and feck the Dubs’ trick. They fall for it every time. The peak cap and the bogger talk. All a show. They’re just creating their little corrupt dynasty for themselves.
This is doing the round on Twitter…
Mattie McGrath’s 2007 election campaign song. http://bit.ly/cExRpQ
Shocking stuff
Mattie ‘Master’ McGrath is as slippery as the greyhound he’s undoubtedly named after. Until his own constituents see him for he is we’re stuck with him, and all his likes elsewhere in the country.
Fuck me, that song. What the fuck?
Conan, sadly true
this guy does not like to be in the box boxhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X30EK631ZsM
Would any of this surprise you if it was true?
There’s a government minister who did a drunken hit and run and got away with it. The victim died a week later. The Gardaí knew who it was but a Chief Super stepped in and had the file destroyed. This was in the 1980s.
There’s a former government minister who was convicted and briefly jailed abroad for drug smuggling in the 70s. They were released early after giving information about an accomplice.
There was a high court judge who was paid over IR£1 million by an American businessman to have serious sexual assault charges against his son dropped. This was done by transferring property in the US State of Florida into the Judges wife’s name. A Garda file was then altered to make the arrest warrant illegal. A newspaper journalist was threatened with his life to keep quiet.
Fuck me, McGrath *and* Mansergh in this video…

@HM, recession over ?
Not.
GDP versus GNP issue.
GDP number, upon which this statement is made, includes multi-national revenues and profits, all of which are repatriated and are fuck-all use to the country.
GNP has us destroyed, still borrowing €0.5 billion weekly, performing like Renaldo did last evening.
No no I was only kidding sniffle. Taking a dig at the usual methods of distracting us from being ridden for all they can take.
HM – one or all?
Mattie McGrath – irritating cunt
Should have a yeast infection named in his honour

Not in the slightest me aul son,if just half of whats been buried ever becomes public knowledge there will be revolution.BUT THE TRUTH WILL NEVER OUT IN THIS MOST CORRUPT OF COUNTRIES.
Jackie-Really Hay is Ireland’s lading satirist as far as I can see.
He had his constituency sussed a long time ago and has been chuckling to himself ever since.
If you recall Peter Cook inventing characters for late night radio (‘Sven the lovesick Norwegian’?)
I can’t believe people are taking JHR at face value. He’s an absolute satirical genius. I’ve not seen anything this good come out of Ireland since the great Brian O’Nolan. He’s had the lot of ye..

Twenty, all made up but really would you be surprised? I’d say mix them all up a bit and you’ve got the truth. The press here don’t publish what they know because of the slander laws and serious threats against them.
Remember Judge Curtin in Kerry in 2002 who got off a charge of possessing child porn because of a dodgy search warrant? I’ll bet that was deliberate. To make a mistake with a warrant for a crime like that is very suspect. I just don’t buy it.

Rape trial collapsed just today. Bloke gets off on a technicality thanks to Judge Paul Carney. They got it mixed up with old fashioned rape apparently. Oh right sorry, you meant NEW rape. Shit sorry about that.

Lenihan: Govt policy is working;

ronan lyons told us all recently that things weren’t that bad really and that fintan o’toole was a ridiculous doomsayer.
lyons is a very irritating little man who spends far too much time alone with his precious spreadsheets.
on the dry’ calling ann come in please
That Brian Curtin thing is awful HM, have just read the article. As if it wasn’t suspicious enough that they executed the search warrant after expiry (or that the judge ruled they did despite protestations to the contrary) and that they suspended an immediate impeachment motion against him in favour of a lengthy committee enquiry, the final para in the article is very telling :
In November 2006, Judge Curtin resigned from the judiciary on health grounds, ending the investigation. This occurred days before he was to give evidence in private to the committee, and days after he had completed five years on the bench, the minimum sufficient to qualify for a pension.[16]
so the decision to have a lengthy committee enquiry instead of removing him from office, and the fact that the enquiry overran in time, have nothing to do with helping him qualify for his pension I suppose? Hmmmm
That Mattie McGrath ‘song’ is truly depressing. Father Ted meets Deliverance.
You called on the dry?
Where’s gluestain these days and is peericrisp a relative of hers?
Gluey is a woman?
“Anne As Luimneach The Stabby cunt. With an Uzi”

OTD -it’s not that bad. It’s never that bad.
we will see gl
From today’s Irish Times;
Lawyers for former judge Brian Curtin are seeking legal fees of up to €1.9 million from the Oireachtas following his two-year battle to stop impeachment proceedings against him.
The costs of Mr Curtin’s legal team, which included former attorney general John Rogers SC, are to be met by the State.

And NO, I’m not messing.
Crispy, you’re definitely not mine.
only in Limerick OTD.
“Far more goes on here that anyone realises because nobody thinks to look”… HM, plenty think to look and when they do they are either invited to join in or threatened to shut up. Your correct insofar as the average Joe doesn’t really give a fuck and the below average Joe doesnt believe it. The so called property ‘scandals’ a few years ago were common knowlege to everyone in the neighbourhoods involved all along. Kids in towns across Ireland knew what the priest got transferred for. You are taught to accept it or fuck off. Irish people have successfully led, communities, unions, territories and armies around the world where you could tell whose side you were on. Many of those same people couldn’t make a dent at home. And over the last 50 years not everyone left Ireland for economic reasons, some just gave up trying to get anyone to stand up.
The only thing you can hate, really hate, about Ireland is the ubiquitous corruption. It is the genesis of all the things you think you hate.
Jaysus lads yiz made the news over here
well done now
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/06/29/business/global/29austerity.html?src=me&ref=business
Mosheen you’re right about people leaving for ideological reasons as such. I can’t count the number of times I’ve seen or read interviews with high profile scientists and doctors working all around the world who were Irish but made no mention of the fact in their interview. They left this country because they knew it would never change.
Will you please be careful HM?
You’ll have the Cap’n along to inform us that he’s a fully paid-up member of that elite crew, and calling us all peasants again.
what your saying in your statement is pure garbage , if you properly read into what mattie is saying , you will realise he is making proper sense of this matter he is completely correct in what he has done….all the ‘high up’ people in the dail have no idea how rural ireland is and just assume this is the best thing to do……and i think people would be much happier if you kept your rubbish opinions to yourself…….
larger spoon needed, ciaran.
care to elaberate
I think he means shove a gigantic spoon up your hole. But that’s only a guess.
Wow I wouldn’t let Mattie McGrath organise the questions in a table quiz down the local (and most of the people in those quizzes are tanked off their heads and can barely manage the crossword in the ‘Far East Magazine’ if you ever got such a thing up in the big shmoke). Here’s one for ya, the local county councilor in my area was CONVICTED for fiddling trying to fiddle public money and sentenced to two years and won a landslide victory in the council elections there last year. I think we’d elect Dick Dastardly if he were real and hailed from Wesht.
