Brian Cowen speaking about how the Irish economy has turned the corner.
The Irish people stood up and backed the banks of Ireland in their hour of greatest need. Now it is time for the banks to stand with the Irish people, to do their job responsibly, and to provide credit to viable Irish businesses that are the engine of job creation.
I didn’t stand up. Did you? Or any of your friends or family? No. People were shouting about what a disaster the bank bailout was, not supporting it (although perhaps by not being more vociferous and demostrative we’re complicit).
The government decided that the people of Ireland would back the banks, with our money, whether we liked it or not. And nothing has changed. The €500k limit on salaries doesn’t get a mention as pay packets exceed that, the supposed clean sweep of directors hasn’t happened and it’s jobs for the boys like it was before, and already they’re slipping comfortably back into their old ways, profiteering on the back of the money we’ve been forced to give them.
And this spineless government allows them to do it because they’re part of the greatest rip-off in history.
Then there’s this, from the Indo.
The National Asset Management Agency (Nama), which was set up to cleanse the banking system of toxic debts, has been revealed to be solely a bailout for builders and developers.
Shock fucking horror, but it’s not as if we can’t say we didn’t know, that this is some kind of surprise. We didn’t do enough to stop it happening. We knew these people got us in this mess yet we allowed them to try and fix it. Criminals don’t make amends for their crimes, they cover them up. It’s one lie to cover up another lie. One more crime to cover up the last one. And when that doesn’t work it’s another one. And another one.
We’ve been lied to, cheated, defrauded, financially violated as a nation and as individuals, and in the latest opinion polls FF are up 1% instead of being set on fire, the whole fucking cunting lot of them.
I know we’re a great lot for revisionism but I hope when the history books are written people remember Bertie Ahern, Brian Cowen and the rest for the gangsters and villains they really are.
I remember the `70s and `80s when it was really dire. Same type of gombyism going on then, only easier to fool the ordinary people and keep them quiet. (Church,Police,Doctors,TDs). They were the days when a BMW or Audi was a rare sight on the roads. Now we`ve had a taste of Tiger opulence its worse `cos we know what we`re missing. The big question for me is; As we are more enlightened and informed why do we still allow it to happen. We may moan a bit more, but in reality, what do we actually do about it?
A very large part of the apathy and frankly amazing indifference is the very tame reporting from mainstream media.
Look at RTE. They are still doing property shows FFS. The buffoons are still left get away with bluster and media handler vetted responses to questions. These clowns could ot answer a question unaided. Did anyone see the Pat Kenny show after prime time last monday? That idiot who was meant to be the junior healt minister. This is the level of public that we as a nation seem to be satisfied with.
That is where the problem must be dealt with.
A core of frankly useless fucks who are totally dependent on their media handlers and civil servants. These idiots were obsessed with being in power not in the governance of the country. Why? because that would mean making decisions that would make you unpopular and shit! get you kicked out next time.
This is why everyone should come to the marches on Tuesdays, 19:30, Kildare street.
A lot of the media keep trying to portray these demonstrations as a small handful of stoned cranks, and reporting the actual attendance as much less than it really was.
I’ve been to two of the three of them, and am going again next week. Yes, there are some SWP present and some students who may listen to RATM a bit too much, but a lot of people there are normal working families, the elderly, healthcare professionals, academics, and average Joes who object to the misappropriation of taxpayer money and the misuse of it to prop up insolvent private businesses while people die on trolleys.
Delilah has it nailed, ditto Holemaster who has spoken to us at length on the same subject.Get to the march on Tuesday and every other Tuesday, otherwise shut the fuck up and take your masters medicine, and be glad for it like good little peasants.
aidan eames, haughey protege appointed to the board of anglo irish bank. what are we going to do in this fucking country and why do we put up with it
Oh fuck off JJW – when I see you on the barricades with a Molotov cocktail taking a pop, maybe then you’re allowed tell me to shut the fuck up.
*turns green and tears shirt off*
Without getting into the whole NAMA at al debate, I would like to make one small point. The newspapers which are tapping into and feeding the borderline hysteria are the self same newspapers who had 40 page property supplements and insisted the garden was rosy.
And although none of what I am about to say forgives the monumental mismanagement of the economy, remember that even when we were rolling in millions, our health service was shit. And it’s always been shit. Out whole public service is by and large, shit. And you can blame ministers all you want, but spend a few months with the over unionised molly coddled 32.5 hour a week drones that I have encountered and you realise that even the good people in there get fucking worn down eventually.
People just want to have a moan, we’re Irish, we’re brilliant at it. Fair play to Holemaster for going on the marches, but it’s a waste of fucking time unfortunately, because this country is full of people who prefer to get told what to think by tabloid rags and Newstalk / Joe Duffy and think the Daily Star is a newspaper.
That’s worse than this recession, because we’ll climb out of that eventually, but we’ll still be outnumbered by thick cunts.
3 front page headlines in irish times saturdy 29th May 2010. (paraphrased)
-state buys another bank as they are so good at running financial institutions
-state pays civil servant 100,000 euro per year more than planned.
-state to take benefits off single parents.
here’s the real kicker – and something which the fuckwits at the Irish Times COULD have made the central part of their reporting, but for some retarded reason they chose not to – the guy they picked to ruin the HSE is the same guy that was head of the ‘Risk committee’ in the failing EBS bank the fuckwit gov’t just bought –
I love it! it’s like a surreal satire – Father Ted, but set in Dail Eireann – wirt large – fantastic TV – better than 30 Rock – but REAL!! And happening to US!!! how cool is that?
The control freaks running things are not done fucking you over yet! Brace yourselves, you’re going to wind up with very sore asses and empty pockets.

people hold ex-colonial governments such as robert mugabe’s in zimbabwe up for ridicule, but to be honest, we are no better. we’ve had all the fight beaten out of us over the years (not just by the british, the church had a big hand in everything that went on) and every politician from that absolute cunt de valera on knows that, which is why they continue on as they do. i don’t know what it will take to make us get our fighting spirit back, but i hope that point is coming soon. we are a nation of sheep and much as i hate saying it, i’m not sure peaceful protest will make anything change. unfortunately there won’t be much left to fight over when the “government” are done. right now, i’m going to do what most irish people will do, which is head to the pub to try to forget for a while, but will be there on tuesday. have been proud to say i’m irish, but not any more. ireland sucks and we have only ourselves to blame
God this is boring, where’s twenty

A bargain at twice the price surely ?
Morning all and welcome to a new week of greed and wankers and bankers and sluts and cuts and the new guy going to run the HSE is called McGee so now we have Mr Mc Gee and the Minister in charge BIG FAT SIT ON HER GEE AND GO NOTHING HARNEY
Just a point I want to make on the Tuesday Marches. I attended the first two. I noticed that there were some non-political protesters. These were people like myself, so-called middle class. I own a small business and employ a number of people. I am interested in politics and economics but not political. I’m not a member of any party or organisation.
I was hoping that the Tuesday Marches would encourage people to come out and protest and I know several who wanted to do that. But unfortunately, the main groups behind these marches were not interested in opening up the invite to a broader range of socio-economic groups. They wanted to keep it as left-wing as possible and none of them had the balls to invite middle class professionals.
I contacted all of these groups urging them to more inclusive and not to harp on about United Ireland politics and Shell to Sea campaigns which are separate issues in themselves. But none of them replied to me yet they still sent me e-mails about the marches.
What is needed is a totally open and broad campaign encompassing everyone from all walks of life, young and old to mobilise and rid ourselves not only of our criminal government but of the Apathy which is the poison that dulls our spirit. And it is Apathy which is the weapon the likes of Fianna Fail and their cohorts use against us.
I want to march and I want to protest. But there is no leadership.
Do I have to start it myself?
