There’s loads to uncover about FAS, I’m sure. We know there was a culture of expense fiddling, cronysim and extravagance as they got sucked into the belief that the Celtic Tiger was a money tree with which to gild their own lives.
It’s an embarrassment that nobody has been prosecuted or jailed. Instead the chief fiddler gets a massive pay-off, a nice new car and a pension forever and a day. Still, this is Ireland. We should be used to this by now.
However, if anything tells us FAS as an organisation is beyond redemption it’s the report that €2,255 of taxpayers money was spent bringing people to a Robbie Williams concert.

A man who was given a Brit award the other day for his outstanding contribution to music. As far as I can tell Robbie’s best achievement was making millions off a song some poor Irish cunt wrote and got paid a pittance for. This gurning, halfwitted quimling cost us money? Our money was used to pay for people to go see him?
There are lines you just don’t cross. We all know them. Improper use of taxpayers money is an unfortunate fact of life in every country, it’s not simply an Irish problem, but for me Robbie Williams is the line. Actually, Robbie Williams is beyond the line. Way beyond the line.
How can an organisation tasked with creating employment and training people expect to be taken seriously when they go to Robbie Williams concerts on our dime?

I did a FAS course a few years back. It was a year long course on computer programming – Java and VB, if you care.
Anyways, it started off brightly enough. Learnt plenty. A month into it though the spectre of official VB and Java exams raised it’s head.
These are very difficult exams, run by Microsoft and Sun systems. Only highly educated and experienced developers can pass them.
FAS however can help you pass them with no experience and fuck all education. Here’s how: They make you cheat.
The tutor buys cheat sheets online, and the entire class spends the remainder of the year learning the answers to the actual questions off by heart. Never really understanding what any of it means.
So by the time you leave, you’re a highly qualified developer who knows fucking nothing, and completely unfit to hold a job.
The entire institution is corrupt from top to bottom. Corrupt sounds a bit to glamorous even. They’re just inept, cheating cunts.
Perhaps Joe Duffy can help us burn them to the ground.

The course wasn’t a total loss. It got me off the couch, and in to pants again.
I can’t imagine any of the 20 or so people that did the course with me are working as developers.
They’d never get passed an interview.
I did this course in finglas, but I know a girl who did the same course in another FAS location, and it was exactly the same thing.
It was all Fianna Fail party members who were central to the corruption. They were both working in FAS and also heads of the companies who supplied FAS. One the ad agencies who ran the FF campaign for the ’97 election, never got paid for it on the promise of a government account. FF cunts would call the agency and make people work late for no pay just to get a few more leaflets designed by the morning. Their jobs were threatened if they didn’t play ball which is illegal. Then not long after that, the FAS account landed in the same agency. The waste of money was incredible. Everybody knew what was going on.

Got turned down for a place on an Fás course a few years back, even though I had a company sponsoring me, and a guaranteed job when the course was done. Went into Fás on the start day anyway, mainly to hassle the fuck out of them and cause trouble. First I spoke to the other candidates though. Every one of the dumb cunts was connected. None had jobs on afterwards. Pure nepotistic bullshit.
Trying to get a trade apprenticeship through Dublin Corporation was exactly the same.
