I’m not paying for this
Posted on | February 7, 2010 | 67 Comments
Via Election.ie today’s Sunday Tribune is running a story saying the Church wants its legal fees, arising from the Ryan Report, to be covered by the taxpayer:
While the orders are close to a final agreement with the government to make additional contributions of €100m plus properties to the redress scheme, the Sunday Tribune has learned that the Department of Finance has been notified that the orders have applied to have their massive legal bills arising from the Ryan inquiry covered by the taxpayer.
It sounds ridiculous. Scandalous. Beyond the pale. But would you be in any way surprised if we ended up footing the bill? I wouldn’t.
Remember, this is Fianna Fail, the party who did a deal with the religious orders that saw the taxpayer pay the vast majority of the compensation for victims of child abuse. Michael Woods capped their liability at £100m, the rest of the money paid out came from you and I. Even last year he defended that deal even though it is clearly one of the most corrupt, dishonest deals done in the history of this state, and it’s got some stiff competition there.
So while on the face of it we can think the idea of us paying the religious orders legal bills is absurd, it’s hardly unlikely. Brian Cowen leads this government and is still supplicant and deferring to the cunts from Rome. He backed the papal nuncio, doffing his cap to him like this man was some kind of superior, when his actions were indefensible. We needed leadership in the wake of the Murphy and Ryan reports, we got inaction, cover-ups and whitewashes.
Despite everything the religious right still have a stronghold over this country. That the religious orders would even contemplate such a move is outrageous. That is hasn’t already been dismissed out of hand more so. The taxpayer is not liable for the crimes of the church. They are responsible, they should pay.
If they get away with this then what have we learned? What’s different? We might as well just let them do whatever they want. This country is filled with brain-dead apologists for this most corrupt of organisations, sadly too many of them are in government.
The religious orders are like violent, perverted criminals – they fuck us, then rob us.

Thanks Twenty. Nothing to add to what you’ve said.

Wow, that is…well I was going to say unbelievable, but it’s not, is it? Not in this country. Fuck ( not paying 50 cent for this one) them.
February 7th, 2010 @ 1:11 pm
No matter which way you cut it, it’ll be the people’s money any way – either by tax breaks the Church is given or through money raised by the church from the faithful, which in the past was legalised extortion.
February 7th, 2010 @ 1:26 pm
They’re a shower of morally bankrupt cunts who still dont understand what they did wrong.
February 7th, 2010 @ 1:36 pm
If the ‘faithful’ want to pay the bill through church collection plates let them. They’ll be paying for it anyway via that route because Rome sure as shit isn’t going to open the coffers to bail the Irish church out.
Lets see just how faithful the faithful are. There is no justification whatsoever for the church’s legal bills in denying what they already knew was a valid charge against them.
They had a choice whether to come clean, pay the survivors and clear out their stables. They chose to attempt to avoid their responsibilities so they must pay their own legal bills.
February 7th, 2010 @ 1:43 pm
Cap – point I was making was that the money already in their coffers, even if that has to be used, came from the people anyway. Not sure if it was discussed before but there have been rows in Derry in 2005 and 2009 about parishioners donations.

Gotcha Maggot … this specious argument that the Irish people should pay is based on the church’s view that secular authorities failed to stop them.
Its an interesting legal precedent. Do we now assume that the Irish state pays for any and all compensation to any victim of rape or assault on the basis that a Garda wasn’t on hand to stop it?
I’m sorry but its pretty much time now for direct action against the church itself. Long past it in fact because these cunts are gambling that there won’t be any such reaction. They are wrong. Fuck it- we can’t even trust the government not to allow it.
February 7th, 2010 @ 3:53 pm
”Nothing to add to what you’ve said.”
Same here, except watch out for the blasphemy police.
February 7th, 2010 @ 4:26 pm
The obvious direct action against a church is to not attend. I’ve done my bit since I’ve been born.
February 7th, 2010 @ 7:18 pm
Its not enough. They still don’t get it. It reallys is time that the problem with the church in Ireland was taken out of the hands of the so-called ‘authorities’ who have at every turn attempted to support the church no matter what it has done.
Not all laws are written down.

“The commission is a completely independent body and the awarding of costs is a matter for the commission to deal with. I would be surprised if the religious orders or other parties did not seek their costs from the commission as they are entitled to under the legislation.”
From reading that – and btw twenty that link doesn’t work – I read the turbine in my parents home after we came back from mass – ?
anyhow. The church has asked the commission for their legal fees. Now that is just plain rude. If the commission even consider it I’d be surprised. I have this horrible feeling though that the commission will find themselves with their hands tied – metaphorically speaking, stop wanking there Father Joe – due to some legal fineprint thrown in at the start by Bertie “BIG LUMP OF ASH ON HEAD” Ahern and his cronies. No surprise if we have to pay it off.
February 7th, 2010 @ 9:42 pm
The odd thing is that as soon as a fucking bomb goes off under a vanfull of priests I know everybody will be condeming ‘de atrocity’.
I’m astonished that some of the survivors themselves haven’t raised some of the followers a little closer to Jesus in unexpected fashion.
It could be just the fucking ticket to bring home to these Italian-owned arses what they are risking.
You won’t find me shedding any tears. In fact, I’d have a pint to celebrate.

Well we’ve always been somewhat of a theocracy here in Eiran, especially under Bertie Aherdinejad.
February 7th, 2010 @ 10:09 pm
Being serious here – I’ve read a fair bit of history about the devotional revolution and the Church in Ireland – and one thing is apparent – Their assets came from the Irish people. Very, very little came from Rome – and I’d guess a fair bit has gone out in that direction.
So – the answer – freeze their assets and nationalise them without compensation. Take back ownership of the schools and hospitals and land and properties they own. They were paid for by you parents and grandparents and great grandparents.

Much as we all want to see the cunts damaged irreparably (both FF and the Cunting catholic church), the best approach is the long game. Undermine them at every opportunity. Teach our children that being near a cleric is being near a paediphile, or someone who covers for a paedophlle. This should limit their influence in the future
February 7th, 2010 @ 11:15 pm
cunts. again.
February 8th, 2010 @ 1:17 am
Cuntbags – no wonder they got that deal
FORMER TAOISEACH Bertie Ahern has said that he lives by the Ten Commandments, the Beatitudes and his own conscience, and hopes to get to heaven when he dies.

Somehow I missed this. My mind is beyond boggled. Why on earth hasn’t some kind of action like what Maggot proposes been done? Cacklick Clericks must have a hell of a load of dirty pics on the pols.

Not even half as stupid as Bannana Republicans : )

Good news! forget the Celtic Tiger, we have joined the new European community called the PIGS, Portugal..Ireland..Greece..Spain. we’ll bring home the bacon once more, living high on the hog, luvely jubly.
February 8th, 2010 @ 9:27 am
Wisewebwoman you may have a very interesting point there. If anyone knows the real dirt on some senior politicians it is the catlicker church.
That may not be so far wide of the mark at all and I am conscious in all of the reportage around Ryan and Dublin Diocesan reports that it has been mentioned that some ‘civilians’ were involved and accessed children apparently with the cooperation of deviants in the religous orders.
The quiet blackmail approach would explain a lot as it did in the Belgian abuse story (‘influential’ people involved by all accounts).
I hope not. Bit the question now needs to be asked as there is no reason whatsoever for Irish politicians to continue providing cloud-cover for the catholic church.
I smell something bad about all this.
February 8th, 2010 @ 10:27 am
People won’t do what maggot proposes because it’s perfect-world-fantasy stuff.
The church is embedded in the constitution. So that’s step one. And that’s civil war stuff. Or Justin Keating. But he’s dead.
The commission will tell the church to take a running jump. Unless it’s written in that all participants are entitled to their fees. If that is the case then you’ve got to look at who set up the parameters.
February 8th, 2010 @ 11:17 am
People won’t do what maggot proposes because it’s perfect-world-fantasy stuff.
No, it requires balls and too many people in Ireland have been pussy-whipped bu the brainwashing at school to consider attacking the Church.
It’s been done in the past. Henry stripped the buggers of their assets. Others have nationalised the assets of Parasites. The reds did it and Nasser did it in Egypt. The Cubans did it.
February 8th, 2010 @ 11:23 am
true maggot. But we can’t just go around loppping peoples heads off anymore.
you won’t find me defending religion, of any type. Or defending bigotted, xenophobic, homophobic sectarian groups either.
February 8th, 2010 @ 11:28 am
Just saw this, talking to the husband about the govt’s continued collusion…god knows what goes on in the deep inner sanctums… as he said, in a creepy priest voice, ‘we’ll let the beast out if you don’t pay it…’
Maybe there really is a beast, deep down in the dark, waiting for it’s day, biding its time…
February 8th, 2010 @ 11:35 am
Start burning their churches. How ironic would that be Maggot? Catholics burning their own churches.
February 8th, 2010 @ 11:37 am
But we can’t just go around loppping peoples heads off anymore.
Even I wouldn’t go that far – but in the light of the Vatican behaviour yowards the Commission, the corruption, the continues dishonesty – seen recently in that 82 year old priest that they hid in England – if it was proposed and openly discussed it would certainly give any government leverage in their negotiations.
France Hammered the Church of Scientology over Fraud – so another option is to charge the Catholic church – or big wigs in it – with perverting the Course of Justice and Conspiracy. And Arizona froze the assets of the Church of Scientology in the past.
February 8th, 2010 @ 11:39 am
Action against Scientology is coming from Christian elements within those Governments though.
February 8th, 2010 @ 11:43 am
Start burning their churches. How ironic would that be Maggot? Catholics burning their own churches.
Pretty silly as you and yours paid for them.
February 8th, 2010 @ 11:45 am
We won’t be needing the Churches. The sites would do nicely for social housing and new schools.
February 8th, 2010 @ 11:55 am
Any mention of this on RTE?
February 8th, 2010 @ 12:09 pm
Mention on RTE?
Are you kidding me?
I can see the headline now:
‘Hard up Church under siege by evil greedy pagans’
The Catholic church has been beset by claims they should pay for their own legal costs. Should the bastion of Irish society really be punished for a process forced upon it by a left wing commision? Where are your morals so called Irish people? etc etc
February 8th, 2010 @ 12:15 pm
The Catholic has always had one ace in the hole (as it were?): confession.
So they DO know where the bodies are buried.
February 8th, 2010 @ 12:20 pm
But Bertie says he hasn’t been to Confession in 40 years Crank!
February 8th, 2010 @ 12:21 pm
Well, Bertie’s no fool…
February 8th, 2010 @ 12:24 pm
As an aside – isn’t this Heresy in the Catholic Church ?
He rationalised inexplicable events, such as the death of a young person, by stating that God cannot influence “every single thing”.
February 8th, 2010 @ 12:36 pm
It appears – and DD posted it it on a different topic – that part of the Northen Ireland latest deal involved the re-imbursement of funds which the methodist church lost in non-state guaranteed bank to the tune of £40 Million!
Looks like all churches are similar in the monetary endeavours…
February 8th, 2010 @ 12:46 pm
Much as I agree with Maggot (for once!), there are still too many people in this country who would oppose any action being taken against the Church, so it will not happen for at least another generation.
In the mean time, the best we can hope for is that the Commission tell them to fuck off.
Realistically, there will be some sort of fudge, it will be paid and we will shuffle along to grumble about something else…

I’ve been on to RTE New Editors this morning asking whether they plan to cover the legal fees story. And if not, why not?
In addition to emailing the Dept of Justice last week to ask when exactly the statement of assets of religous organisations will be produced (to the public as I’m aware Batty O’Keeffe says its ‘in cabinet’.
It needs to come the fuck OUT of cabinet. Bets on whether they’ll try to keep that in the NAMA discussion cupboard on the grounds the church is a ‘private organisation’.
Keep on at these cunts.
February 8th, 2010 @ 1:35 pm
I’ll getting on to my local TD about it today.

Micheal Martin is shortly to be visiting the UK looking for a dig-out from wealthy Irish expatriates.
I’ll be there and the demand from me will be ‘fuck off and deliver the vote to expatriots with Irish passports otherwise not one penny’.
I’ll also be on to some others I know in the States to alert them to the Dig-Out Tour and pointing out this is the right time to say ‘fuck off and come back to us when you have something new to offer’- such as the vote for expatriates.
February 8th, 2010 @ 1:48 pm
I love the Pat Buckley story, especially this quote:
“It wasn’t a wild, love-at-first-sight thing. It’s a meeting of soulmates and companionship. It’s rooted in deeper things than physical attraction alone,”
Certainly the Filipino chap isn’t marrying Buckley for his dashing good looks. Fair play to the pair of them. I wonder will Fr. Sinead O’Connor perform the cermony?
February 8th, 2010 @ 1:50 pm
down with that sort of thing
February 8th, 2010 @ 2:00 pm
Do you not the like bit of gay Peadar?
February 8th, 2010 @ 2:28 pm
Pat Buckley is a good lad – treated shamefully – as he has pointed out he would have been treated better if he had been Paedophile rather than gay. His book – A Thorn In the Side – is worth reading.
He didn’t help his own cause by announcing to the world that that cunt Cahal Daly should leave his Palace and live with the poor !

Excellent.

Oh look what I found after googling ‘Eamon O’Cuiv’ and ‘Opus Dei’. This is taken from an Opus Dei website and is google translated from Italian to English so it’s not perfect. The place called Lismullen Centre referred to in the piece belongs to the Lismullen Institute which is very closely associated with Opus Dei. That’s where they discuss how to continue oppressing people by maintaining control over our Government.
“The now traditional series of lectures for diocesan priests of the Irish clergy organized at the Conference Center Lismullin have focused in recent months, the anniversary of the publication of Rerum Novarum and Centesimus Annus, tackling some aspects of the social doctrine of the Church. A particular cycle of meetings on the topic of the conference was inaugurated by Rev. Dr. Daniel Cummings, who has highlighted the continuity of the last social encyclical with the entire body of the papal magisterium of John Paul II. E ‘followed the intervention of Bishop Thomas Finnegan, Bishop of Killala, who spoke about migration and the pastoral care of migrants. Senator Eamon O’Cuiv has concluded the meeting by stressing the centrality of the human factor, understood in its transcendent dimension than economico_materiali in any social process.”

Way back in the 70s, Usher Hall Edinburgh, Jethro Tull was supported by an all girl band – including Suzi Quatro’s sister – they came on stage dressed as nuns and during the first number disrobed. Friendly girls during the show – you would have loved it el cuno.
