Jesus, the stupid insenstive bastards.

What Twenty said and what FMC said.
It’s almost unbelievable

What next, “Tommy Tiernan has an irreverent look at the Child Abuse Scandal ” ?

Oh, the picture in the middle, I thought you meant the hot chick in the advert….
Oh…Jesus..that is awful…

It only shows what a shallow, stupid country we live in. If we had a tsunami that killed thousands, we’d have some TV3 bimbo in a low cut dress getting in the way of the rescue teams, in a desperate effort to interview the waiter who served Glenda Gilson a cappuccino, before her helicopter swooped down to rescue her from the flood.
Sick doesn’t even begin to describe it.
November 27th, 2009 @ 1:04 am
That picture is highly inappropriate.
Are Barbies now doing the website for TV3 as well as presenting all the programmes? Stupid, insensitive cunts. Way to hit a new low TV3.

Oh, it’s 98FM. Jaysus, I’m hallucinating – must go to bed.

Someone should be fired over that, what a total fucking disgrace.

Something just occurred to me.
It’s a common mistake to believe that cannabis is legal in the Netherlands. In fact, it is a controlled, illegal substance. The Dutch police simply take the approach that there are worse crimes and bigger things for them to deal with, so they tolerate the sale and use of cannabis within specifically agreed circumstances: sale only allowed by allocated coffeeshops; use only within coffeeshops and at home. If you walk past a cop in Amsterdam with a reefer sticking out of your jib you’ll very quickly be dealt with. If you’re discovered growing and selling cannabis you will end up in jail.
In Ireland, we seem to have a similar situation with the raping of children. It is illegal to rape children here. However, within certain circumstances the Irish police will tolerate this activity without prosecution. The criteria to be allowed to rape children seems to be that you have to be a priest and the acts have to be carried out within a church-run institution. I am not aware of any legal proceedings against these large numbers of priests who have raped children, some raping up to 100 children each over the course of several decades. From what I understand most of the priests named in the report yesterday are still alive today, and their identity is known to the police.
So, by the same interpretation as “weed is legal in Amsterdam”, it seems that raping of children is legal in Ireland. I wonder how long it will be before Garry Glitter’s buddies start arriving at Dublin airport.
It’s all very grim indeed.
November 27th, 2009 @ 8:17 am
Fucking hell.
November 27th, 2009 @ 8:36 am
Funny, all the same.
No?
November 27th, 2009 @ 8:37 am
Ahh, when you look at the big image as posted by Git it doesn’t look like a girl being forced to give head.
Which is a good thing, I suppose.
November 27th, 2009 @ 8:47 am
I thought so too Twenty, until I realised it means they cropped the photo so that it would look like that.
November 27th, 2009 @ 8:57 am
Yeah, the fact they cropped it makes it even worse
November 27th, 2009 @ 9:24 am
Well we think criminal scum like Fianna Fail are fit people to govern our country so I think we’re a nation with some serious deficiencies. Institutional child abuse is just another symptom of our malaise.
November 27th, 2009 @ 9:30 am
Someone should be hung for that.
November 27th, 2009 @ 9:35 am
Its like the backdrop in a Todays the Day piece on paedophilia presented by Alan Partridge..
Disgraceful!
November 27th, 2009 @ 9:56 am
Not that I’m one for using annoying internet slang, but … WTF?
November 27th, 2009 @ 10:15 am
Oh that’s a very unfortunate picture crop.
November 27th, 2009 @ 10:22 am
Was refraining from posting because I already disagreed with you on this on twitter – and I had the feeling that disagreeing with the famous Twenty Major (especially on his own blog) was Internet suicide of sorts… but hey, what the hell… here goes…
I didn’t see the problem with this image to begin with. I thought it was provocative and evocative, certainly. I thought it portrayed child abuse without being overtly sexual or expressly explicit.
I actially had to really think for a minute about why someone would find it inappropriate or particularly offensive before I realised that SOME people MIGHT (mis-)interpret it as an image of a girl giving head.
Maybe that says something about me being more innocent-minded than most of you (I wouldn’t have thought so to be honest) and maybe it says something about people expecting the worst, being far too easily offended or being far too ready to jump on the berating bandwagon… I don’t know.
My point is, though, that the image actually shows nothing of the sort – and while some people may see something that isn’t actually there – particularly in the cropped version (I, for one, didn’t – at first) – the fact remains that it ISN’T there. Obviously it’s clearer when you look at the larger image that there’s nothing specifically sexual going on in the picture… but people don’t do that, do they?
You can’t blame the publishers for something that some people will (mis-)interpret.
I think it’s quite clear that Dublin’s 98 didn’t mean the image to represent anything more than child abuse and wouldn’t have intended the interpretation that some people are taking from the image. No heads should roll for this.
Incidentally, there’s no “FM” in the station’s name to stand for ‘fucking morons’ or anything else, incidentally – hasn’t been for a while.
November 27th, 2009 @ 10:26 am
You want a good picture crop? I’ll give yis a good picture crop.
November 27th, 2009 @ 10:26 am
Who would Jesus rape?
November 27th, 2009 @ 10:28 am
See what Billie said above there.
And like Colm O’Gorman said, that the dog in the street knew .
” stay away from yer man ”
A systemic flaw in Irish society .
Well said Billie.
November 27th, 2009 @ 10:39 am
NiallOK. The crop on the picture is a bit careless in fairness.
I work in publishing and printing and I know that a pic like that would not be signed off without the person responsible knowing full well that it could be misinterpreted. Journos and picture editors know what they’re doing by letting the public come to a certain conclusion. It’s emotionally manipulative. The kind of thing the Indo, Evening Herald, TV3 and other dregs get up to.
I suppose they knew while at the same time not knowing.
November 27th, 2009 @ 10:42 am
It’s like something out of “The Ring”, which is doubly unfortunate when you think about it…
November 27th, 2009 @ 11:06 am
NiallOK, to me from the cropped version, at first glance it looks like a hand gripping the back of the head of a child with some force (tendons sticking out in the hand) into the lower stomach of a priest like figure.
When you look at the full picture what appear to be a slender neck was actually an arm.
I wouldn’t consider myself easily offended at all, in fact the picture doesn’t offend me, but i suspect it would offend someone who had been raped by a priest.
As for jumping on the berating bandwagon easily. Guilty as charged.
November 27th, 2009 @ 11:06 am
Niall – you are free to disagree with me here or anywhere else without a problem at all.
I just think the image used – which looks like a girl being forced to give head – is insensitive and crass. We don’t need to be explicitly shown what child abuse looks like.
As it turns out the big image is nothing of the sort so the way it was cropped and presented was deliberate and sensational. It’s the worst kind of tabloid fodder. I’m not saying heads should roll, but you should expect a modicum of decency and respect for the people who have suffered when reporting on something like this.
As for the FM – who cares?!
November 27th, 2009 @ 11:09 am
“I suppose they knew while at the same time not knowing.”
A bit like the old bishops, what?
Provocative and evocative me hole.
November 27th, 2009 @ 11:18 am
I’m sure the dropping of ‘FM’ has something to do with Denis O’Brien’s plans to make the website and the radio station some kind of amalgamated media going forward type outlet. It’s all about the brand don’t you know.
November 27th, 2009 @ 11:50 am
Say what you like about Denis O’Brien…no really, say what you like!
December 1st, 2009 @ 1:21 am

December 2nd, 2009 @ 1:31 am
Obviously 98FM’s website is run by a bunch of fucking clueless spastics
December 2nd, 2009 @ 1:36 am
NiallOK… do you have a lack of understanding with the association of the image to the story? The image is sensationalist, crass and totally uneccessary, but obviously you missed these points.
No wonder the country is in such a state with fuckwitts like you around
December 9th, 2009 @ 5:54 pm
Tipper… I have absolutely no lack of understanding. The image (in which a child is being abused) IS associated with the story. No confusion there.
- and I didn’t ‘miss’ the points you are making, I just disagree with most of them. It IS possible for people to disagree with your points, you know?.. doesn’t mean they’ve missed them.
The point I agree with?.. Yes the image IS sensationalist. It was most likely intended to be. I still very much doubt however (mis-)interpretation by some people that this was an image of a child being forced to give head was any way intended by the site’s publishers.
And frankly, I’d spend more time responding, but after the remarks in the last line of your reply, feel free to go fuck yourself.
