Quote of the year
Last night on the week in politics, Mary White, deputy leader of the Green Party, was talking about how they had, in a Sunday Business Post poll, gained 2%. They now have 5%. Amazing, considering what a pack of feckless cretins they are.
Still, Mary White knows how important the Greens are. Mary White is under no illusions as to the job they have to do. Mary White is not one for specious, trite comparisons. Mary White wants to set the people free. Mary White is the Green Queen of Emancipation. Oh yes.
Last night on The Week in Politics, she said:
“I was reading the life of Lincoln recently and he was prepared to lose half the United States to do the right thing for his country by abolishing slavery.
We’re going to do the right thing by our country by making sure we can come out of recession”.
The Deputy Leader of the Green Party said this, last night, on national television … with a straight face. I wonder how much of Ireland the Green Party are willing to sacrifice to do what they consider to be the right thing for ‘our country’.
Because making some budget cuts and tax increases to undo the mess you have made in government (and it’s funny how much the Greens try and distance themselves from any culpability by using the ‘it was like that when we got here’ card) is just like Abraham Lincoln abolishing slavery.
As she pointed out last night 84% of the Green members supported the party continuing in government, despite the huge public objection to NAMA, so perhaps that’s how much of the country they are willing to lose to ‘do the right thing’. Oppose NAMA? The Greens are prepared to lose you, because what you think doesn’t matter, your objections are irrelevant, because the most important thing is that the Greens get to implement their policies.
And as soon as anyone figures out exactly what their policies are I’ll let you know.
Now, I’m off to round up my slaves to make sure Mary White doesn’t set them free.

Ahh politics. It’s a crock of shite, why do you get your nads in such a knot over it?
I have valium. You want?
November 23rd, 2009 at 10:08 am
Will valium make the rain go away? Then yes, yes I do.
November 23rd, 2009 at 10:18 am
I wasn’t paying much attention, but I did notice that the answers she gave bore no relation to the questions she was being asked. She just stuck to her script.

“84% of the Green members supported the party continuing in government, despite the huge public objection to NAMA”
yes but to be fair they are outlawing mink farming.
i’ve noticed a lot recently politicians comparing themselves to and quoting from figures of the past, winston churchill has cropped up a lot on the radio, and references to movies, perhaps hollywood will show us the way.
id like some valium too please, whether it helps or not.
November 23rd, 2009 at 10:23 am
Where’d you get your slaves from? I’ve a few from Mayo. Some dude over there was having a recession-busting sale a few weeks back.
November 23rd, 2009 at 10:31 am
She was pulling figures out of her arse last night. She wants to take more money from the people who may already pay the higest tax to ‘protect’ someone who has been on the dole for 10 years. Yep, that seems fair Mary. Punish those who work to protect those who don’t.

I’m worn out complaining about the party I voted for; though I have sent Mary and Trevor a link to this . (The greens have let all green voters down going into power with FF Corrupt Inc) And Mary White once said on radio that she had “a little green heart”…..
So instead, this a.m., I am going off-topic and I am wondering
Why do RTE news reporters feel that it is necessary to stand in a flood while reporting a flood?
Following their logic they should also report – “I’m reporting on CJD, hence my head is stuck up a cows anus”

“Will valium make the rain go away? Then yes, yes I do.”
Only voting green will make the rain go away Twenty,
you should know that by now.

Just to be pedantic but Lincoln wasn’t prepared at all to lose half the union in order to set the slaves free. He fought the southern states to ensure that he didn’t lose half the union. The notion that he fought the civil war so that he could risk losing the people he was fighting against is just logic run amok. I thought it was just the other Mary White that was too fond of herself but it must be part and parcel of the name.
Also, Mary White told us that she was on the side of those who never benefited from the Celtic Tiger and who had been unemployed for the last ten years. Now, if you have some real difficulty that prevented you from taking up
employment then fair enough but if you are in your late twenties or thirties and in good health then why weren’t you working at any time in the last time years? It might have passed the likes of Mary White by, the people who care so much and have no solutions bar express of their concern, but the vast majority of those who are unemployed right now have been busting them humps the last decade working and paying bills and such like, and the last folks they want to be compared and lumped in with is those who choose not to work at all, at any time during the biggest boom in our history.

You aren’t seriously reacting to an Irish poll that says the Greens’ share of vote has gone up?
Don’t believe a fucking word out of Irish polling organisations.
The entire system is fraudulent from the electoral register upwards.

TOU WOULDN’T BE ABLE TO AFFORD ME ADIE!

Reacting the comment. Couldn’t give a fuck about the poll really. They may have just come across some Modern Parents from Viz cunts.

One of the women from the green party (I forget who) told the masses on the last word a couple of years ago that the MMR vacine was bad because it caused autism.
A medical doctor came on and rubbished her telling Matt that a paper had been published which rubbished any link between the two, but fair play to her, she stuck to her guns and told people that she wouldn’t go and get it for her infant.
They’re beyond being inept, they’re fucking dangerous at this stage.
November 23rd, 2009 at 1:16 pm
re: MMR, Ben Goldacre of the guardian was the doctor in question. He wrote a great book, Bad Science which rubbishes most of the airy fairy alternative / non-fact based medicine. There was also an article in the Sunday Times about the benefits of properly regulated GM foods, and there is the ongoing talk of going nuclear. All of which the green party opposes in one for or another. I’m all for protection of the planet, it is for the moment, the only one we have, but principle will only get you so far, and so fed.
The gave up the right to be seen as principled the day they entered government with a party they foreswore to see beaten, and they have been rubber-spined in government since.
Fianna Fail are cunts, but we knew that before the election, they have a core vote and it ain’t for changing. But the greens were holding out as the good cop, the renegade sheriff who was gonna clean up this town…
Pure bio-degradable horse-shit.
November 23rd, 2009 at 1:39 pm
I used to like the Green party – ’til I got to know them…
Gormley’s a tosser, Ryan truly is an idiot and Mary White is dangerously deluded and completely inneffectual as a TD on both a national and local level.
If she’s re-elected, I’ll go live with Josef Fritzl. His bunker looked nice.
November 23rd, 2009 at 2:00 pm
Adie:
…and Patricia McKenna was the green party member who wanted Irish mothers not to vaccinate the kids.
Not sure about GM yet. Its still being backed by Monsanto, whose interest is making money, not in feeding the world. The whole food industry is completely corrupt anyway, look at Nestle and how they marketed infant formula in Africa.
The Greens are bad. Monsanto is the love child of Rosemary West and Josef Fritzl.

@ Fatmammycat
Were you not berating me on another blog quite recently about my lack of concern for the ‘most vulnerable’ in our society?? When I made similar arguments to this??
If it was someone else, I apologise in advance…

Sorry FMC. Mixed you up with someone.

So this Mary White equates Lincoln’s stance on slavery with the government’s fighting an economic recession for which they themselves were largely responsible? Jesus, if you’re going to pull an historic comparison out of your ass, at the very least give it an ounce of relevance and coherence. She just liked using the Lincoln example because it ‘sounds’ historic, stately and cool without giving any thought whatsoever to whether or not it has any bearing on the current situation. I wonder what other nonsensical gems she has up her sleeve:
..and just as Julius Caesar said, ‘Et tu Brute’, we too shall give our full support to the NAMA proposals…..
..and just as Napoleon’s decimated forces crawled back from his failed Russian campaign, the Irish economy though frozen and starved shall also dig itself out of this economic pit…
“The only thing we have to fear is fear itself” so…er…the Irish people shouldn’t be afraid of….em…being afraid of nuclear power….or something.

To paraphrase “angry man” – at least FF were elected to be corrupt and ineffective. The Greens are such a joke at this stage, it’s not even worth bothering with them.

Give all politicians a max. wagepacket of 30k a year + some bonuses for achieving results. That’ll weed all the ‘career politicians’ out and keep the ones who sincerely, genuinely want to improve this country in. I’m sick and fucking tired of seeing a bunch of pointless empty suits looking after numero uno and trying to cloak it with some bullshit statement on how their greed and stupidity is what the country or the people need.. One day I’m giving up on this polititics thing, i really am.
November 24th, 2009 at 2:53 am
By the way, I’m sure noone is as naive as to think that the American civil war was not started for primarily economic reasons
