Motorway madness

From today’s Independent:

Taxpayers will have to compensate the operators of the controversial M3 motorway if the number of vehicles using it falls below target.

The ‘minimum traffic level’ clause for the M3 was included in the contract for the €650m motorway through Co Meath. It means the State will have to pay the toll operators, Eurolink, compensation if traffic flows (predicted at up to 60,000 drivers per day) fail to meet the agreed minimum target. But the National Roads Authority (NRA) has not revealed what this target is.

I’ve been thinking about this story and I can only come up with two possible explanations as to why such a deal would be made.

1 – Whoever made this deal is a fucking retard.

2 – Whoever made this deal wants to ensure that EuroLink Motorway Operation M3 Ltd, who will be running the toll road, make lots of money.

I’m leaning towards a fairly even split between them. Corrupt retardation. Let’s not forget this government’s track record when it comes to toll roads is a touch on the utterly shit side. The M50 toll did nothing but make NTR extremely rich, cause traffic problems and ultimately cost us €650m to buy it back off the millionaires operating it.

Now we guarantee a certain amount of traffic to another crowd on another toll road. Why, exactly? If they’re going to reap the rewards of charging people to use a road why do they not assume any of the risk if people choose not to use it?

Why, if people choose to take a different route and not pay the toll, is it not just tough shit for Eurolink? It means they can charge whatever they want, essentially. The normal rules of supply and demand don’t matter. Under normal circumstances if not enough people were using the toll road they might be inclined to try and increase demand by lowering the price, making it more competitive. But with this deal that is never going to happen because if demand is short we’ll pick up the tab.

Whatever way you want to look at it, it’s a load of bollocks. Thank fuck I never have to go to Meath for anything.

Meath, 3/5 TDs FF including Noel Dempsey, currently minister for Transport. Coincidence ?

  2. Scaryduck says:

You HAVE To go to Meath, otherwise they’ll just take the toll out of your taxes.

Go to Meath. Punch somebody deserving in the cock. Drive back. Job done.

  3. Twenty Major says:

I really don’t want to go to Meath though.

Plus Ashbourne sounds like the place where a cunt of a footballer was spawned. Nobody needs that.

  4. Fill3rup says:

I love the fact that i dont own/or have an intention of ever owning a car and that my tax money will go to paying these cunts because the goverment were to spinelss not to make a deal..Or will it be paid from motor tax?

  5. Scaryduck says:

    OK. Plan B.

Send someone in a taxi to Meath. When they get there, have them kick the taxi driver in the cock.

Do I have to do everything round here?

  6. jonjoward says:

go to meath and BITE noel dempseys cock off then stuff it up his corrupted arse, dont pay the taxi driver either coz he’s a cunt as well.twentys right on this one though, we are being shafted left, right, and centre by these fianna fail cunts and theyre making sure to get all the ripping done before they get fucked out only to be replaced by the blueshirt strokers.

  7. peadar says:

Fill, will you not get a car when you grow up to be a big boy?

  8. maggot says:

Point of Information – would you have to pay a toll on your Honda 50 Twenty ?

As an outsider it puzzles me as to why people so loathe FG because of the 1920s and 1930s when FF were and still are such an utter shower of bastards – surely what matters is what FG have been recently ? Might not be great but miles better than FF ?

  10. Fill3rup says:

I walk alot and got a bike there last week..i plan on not dying of a stroke or heart attack (from road rage) for as long as i can..
Although the chances of being totalled by coffin driving maniac have increased..
I would say i will have to relent at some point but im holding it off for as long as i can…

  11. peadar says:

I know but you’ll probably feel differently when your 18

  12. I can only assume that some of the FF golden circle people are investors in Eurolink.

Its like the ring of doom as far as far as Irelands economy is concerned.

Or maybe i’m just depressed after reading Gavin’s blog.

  13. Tomo says:

I just read it, it beggars belief. Somewhere in Somalia or Nigeria I bet there’s a bunch of warlords sitting around wide eyed in admiration of our fianna fail monkey-ruler-cunts. They really can chunk down that cock eh? You have to almost hope it’s corruption, that way at least somebodys getting a few bob. If it’s stupidity, well, that’s just plain scary.

  14. Holemaster says:

If anyone has an account with SoloCheck.ie they may wish to see who owns the company….

    http://tinyurl.com/ns58zb

They had changes of directors recently so don’t be surprised if they are related to some FF cunts.

  15. Holemaster says:

One Irish director, Finian Lyden, also a director of SIAC companies. SIAC have very cosy relationships with Fianna Fail. They wine and dine local councillors on a regular basis to glean information on planning and zoning issues. So I reckon SIAC are basically the Irish partners of Eurolink. It’s the classic way of doing business in a banana republic. You find out who pays the politicians and then get into bed with them.

  16. Jr. says:

FF will gladly supplement Eurolink yet local pharmacies are still shut because Harney is trying to squeeze the coppers out of them. Good to know where prioritys stand, not with helping people who live here, but making profits.

  17. Twenty Major says:

Had a look, all the directors are Spanish (two with a shared address in Rathfarnham), the other addresses in Spain.

The only Irish director listed is Finn Lyden who is a director of SIAC, as HM said above.

    He’s also a director of:

    395885 CZCHIBOR LIMITED Normal
424069 M3 ECO PARK LIMITED Normal
427389 SIAC CLONDALKIN HOLDINGS LIMITED Normal
428372 SIAC PPP INVESTMENTS LIMITED Normal
428608 SIAC PROPERTY HOLDINGS LIMITED Normal
    428609 SIAC BALDONNELL LIMITED Normal
429392 SIAC PROPERTY DEVELOPMENTS LIMITED Normal
429397 SIAC PROPERTY RENTALS LIMITED Normal
430983 SIAC INFRASTRUCTURE FUND (M3) LIMITED Normal
432019 EUROLINK MOTORWAY OPERATIONS (M3) LIMITED Normal

  18. Twenty Major says:

. So I reckon SIAC are basically the Irish partners of Eurolink.

    http://www.eurolink-m3.ie/contractor.html

  19. Twenty Major says:

One of the other directors, ENRIQUE DIAZ-RATO REVUELTA, is part of a group called Cintra – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cintra – which is mostly owned by the Ferrovial Group – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferrovial

So basically we’ve given away the toll roads to a foreign company.

Why couldn’t these roads be state run, generating income for us instead of a Spanish company?

Who decided that was a good idea?

  20. Fill3rup says:

The same cunts that gave the Corrib gas field to Shell for Free!! then gave them a private army to prtect their investment. All paid for by guess who?

  21. jonjoward says:

scandalous dawgs, but just bend over and take it like good little guys an gals.its game set and match to our beloved mafiosa government.i wonder will any of dempseys sprogs get a book deal or a nice directorship or two from this sweetheart dal,eh,eh.

  22. Twenty Major says:

No idea … can’t find anything

  23. Ass-per-usual says:

In most countries this would be an outrage, business as usual here though. Fucking pricks, where are disgruntled, armed men with nothing to lose when ye need ‘em?

  24. Scawgeen says:

I’m just an novice here but could the Minister for Finance just wave his magic wand and tax the revenue from the tolls at say 65c in the euro. Does the government receive any of the toll revenue in tax ? Couldn’t the minister who signed on the dotted line be declared insane, and locked up indefinately ? Surely there’s some legal eagle out there who could get us out of this sad mess.

  25. maggot says:

Build it and nationalise it without any compensation – imagine the squeals!

  26. Sir-Dancealot-The- Rave says:

In older times didn’t Kings put tolls on public highways? And tax people to hell and gone? What’s changed…do we need to suffer this current B.S. any longer?

  27. The Mowl says:

..love the photo at the SIAC sit, where the interchange spaghetti junction has a housing estate under the flyover. You couldn’t make that shit up. Yeps, we do it adam and the ants style:

    ‘stand and deliver!’

  28. To make it sound less bad, something similar happened in Portugal. Oh wait, that doesn’t make it sound less bad. It just means that our government is also absolute shite…

  29. Mosheen says:

It is a disincentive to the government to improve the alternate routes in the area. Pay for improvements, ease volume on the toll road, pay the toll operators for doing it. So the local potholes will be getting massive. Does Dempsey’s brother own a Landrover dealership?
