We’re not racist, honest

So an asylum seeker finds his car partially submerged after a day at the beach. Some chaps offer to help. Then use the rope they were going to tow the car with to drag said asylum seeker behind the car for a distance as they drove off.

Gardai said ‘they were satisfied the incident, which happened on July 2, was not racially motivated and was an opportunistic prank gone wrong’.

Really? Tying a rope around people and dragging them along behind your car does have rather racist connotations. I know this was on a beach but would they have done it if it had been an Irish man looking for their help?

I sincerely doubt it. I’m not sure dismissing it as just a prank does anyone any favours, really. Maybe it was just a prank, in as much as tying a rope around someone’s waist and then dragging them behind you car can be considered such, but let’s reverse it for a minute. Imagine it was a group of Pakistani men who had done it to an Irish person. Would the Gardai be more inclined to take action? Probably.

Yet the ringleader has not been arrested or charged with anything. Seems odd, doesn’t it? Even if it wasn’t racially motivated, surely that kind of behaviour warrants punishment.

But once it’s not racist it’s just a bit of high jinks that went too far. That’s all right then.

“Mr Khan has yet to make a formal complaint to gardai about the incident.”

Sounds like intimidation is going on here too, maybe “someone” said “so you’re looking for asylum here in Ireland heh? well don’t make any trouble for the locals…complain to the gards and you goin straight back to pakistan..your choice”

  2. SuperGrover says:

Who knows? The same bunch of bullying cunts might have seized on the same opportunity if it was whitey attached to their car by a rope. It seems to have been a very opportunistic “prank” where the motivation can’t be proved.

Still, it does smell all a bit KKK because it’s a foreign national involved and could well have been racially motivated.

    No way of knowing, really.

  3. Fill3rup says:

Total whitewash there.. If the same lads did it to an Irish kid they would be splashed all over the papers.. The Gardai will be hoping Mr Khan goes away without a fuss..

  4. Jack McMad says:

They would have done it to anyone. Bettystown is full of scumbags.

  5. Twenty Major says:

    heh

Just strikes me that the Gardai would say “Yes, I know there’s a burning cross in Mr N’Dugu’s garden but it was just a prank which went a bit too far. There’s nothing racially motivating it. The sheets? The pointy hoods? Early hallowe’en costumes, nothing more”

  6. 20 woodbines says:

Mr. Khan should bide his time he could put some rat poison in thier take-away ,when they’re in , well bollixed , some friday for a kebab. Seriously ,they would’nt have gotten away with doing it to an Irish person, if nothing else , they would been strung up by a bunch of cunts similar to themselves.

  7. uiscebot says:

Racists maybe. Scumbags for definite. They would have gotten away with it if he was irish too. the only reason it made the news was because of the racism aspect. Come to think of it there’s probably a lot of issues on that beach with Mosney residents. You could see it being a bit of an integration faultline

  8. Fill3rup says:

I always fucking hated Mosney..what shit day out it was..

“The incident happened on July 2″
    that’s a typo surely?

  11. Twenty Major says:

Future crime. It’s like Minority Report. Or something.

  12. morgor says:

You can do whatever you like in Ireland and the guards don’t do anything.

unless it’s protesting about Shell or not paying your motor tax.

  13. Sniffle says:

Yep, racist and look where they sent the poor fucker for his injuries. Wonder how they examined him? The ghosts of Neary and Shine still casting a shadow there.

  14. shytehawk says:

Surely it is possible for an attack to be racially motivated and opportunistic at the same time?
Of course the Gardaí don’t want it classified as a race crime as this means more work for them….and sure they were probably good lads really – just having a laugh…

  15. Holemaster says:

The race aspect is irrelevant. Doesn’t matter where the man was from. You’re not supposed to tie ropes around people and drag them behind cars. If the victim hasn’t made a complaint, the guards can’t act on it. If he didn’t make a complaint out of fear losing his asylum application, there is something wrong with the information he is being given by the state.

Stupid people who’s ignorance alone is dangerous to others should be the ones in detention centres.

p.s. How can I upload a photo from my desktop? I tried it the other night and it just displayed my desktop address etc when I inputted the URL? I’m afraid I’m a bit of a luddite but I think you’ll like the photos

Jaysus sure it sounds like great fun. A new type of adventure sport – beach sliding or something.
They should have charged him for it.
Now’ll they’ll be scourged with all those “adventure” type dudes wanting to give it a try. Some of those could do with been dragged on their faces for a few miles

Hate to be pointing this out, but is your comment not stereotyping the man based on his country of birth??

  24. Jack McMad says:

    20 Woodbines = Conor Lenihan?

  25. Holemaster says:

    Conor Lenihan. Minister for Blacks.

  26. SAm Crea says:

If you were writing a farcical political sketch you might think it funny to have a politican who makes a racist comment in the house and then gets make minister for integration, but of course Lenihan did it in real life.

  27. smellmyfinger says:

He did such an outstanding job as the Minister For Blacks that he’s been promoted to Minister For Phones now. He’s mates with Denis O’Brien, so he must know his stuff.

  28. Holemaster says:

Denis O’Brien sure has the whole Voodoofone thing wrapped up down in Jamaica and the likes.

  29. Waffles says:

So it’s a prank to tie up and drag an unwilling stranger behind a moving car, putting him in hospital? I don’t give a fuck whether he’s asylum, Irish, or from the fucking moon, you shouldn’t have to make a complaint if you’ve been put in bloody hospital and you know which cunts did it.

Smells of bloody horseshit from the PR.

Stereotyping , ! Nah . Apparently MR. Khan is from Pakistan . If he was from former Yougslavia or Palestine it could be stereotyping. Just wishing the poor man ” best of luck in the free world “

  36. cruddybang says:

the guy from pakistan was probably asking for it, it’s his fault for not being able to speak english, he should go back home!!

  37. Gluaistean says:

Why not use the traditional ‘Get out of jail free card”?

“Ah shure ye see, yer honour. I had a few jars in me at the time…”

  38. rape-a-tron says:

hang on a second, a man on a beach with a rope tied round himself, fuckin right you’d drag him along, sure how could you not? the setting is perfect, he’s already wet, he’s tied the damn thing around himself, he ruined mosney for us.

seriously though, it does reek of prank, like someone passed out at a party, it might not be big or clever but it’s oh so tempting.

    stop being so precious.

  39. SAm Crea says:

you always know when an Irish person is going to make a racist comment, he will start…
