As pointed out in the comments of the previous post by Morgor and Amsterdamaged:
SOME senior staff at Anglo Irish Bank who borrowed millions from the bank to buy properties and shares are now unable to repay the loans, the lender’s executive chairman revealed yesterday.
Donal O’Connor said the bank had written off these loans to senior staff and directors and they would now have to be repaid by the taxpayer.
Pardon me?
This has somewhat spoiled my good mood, I have to say. Not only are our taxes expected to get us out of the financial mess this government has left us in, they’re expected to pay of the debts of greedy Anglo Irish Bank workers.
How is this even possible? Why are we footing the bill for other people’s greed? For their speculation and profiteering?
I’m absolutely open to other people’s expertise on this but I’m assuming this is because we nationalised Anglo Irish Bank. What would have happened if we’d let it go bust?
Would the consequences really have been much worse than this?
Infuriating really. If i turned around and told my bank that I couldnt afford to pay back the mortgage i have with them, they would simply take the house from under my feet sell it at a massive loss and then take me to court for the remainder owed…
But in fairness, the senior staff are much more important than I am obviously.. plus they’ve had a bit of a ruff time of it lately..we should go easy on them,i mean it’ll be our grand-children that will be picking up the tab..one more reason why i wont be having any kids..
They should have crashed and burned, the utter and complete cunts. Contracts for difference and preferential loans, cunts. Rotten to the core.
And Lenihan like a lamped rabbit, puppy compliant and looking for validation from Brussells for his “plan”. Cunts. We should have left them twist in the wind.
and even when they’ve been bailed out and nationalised they don’t feel obliged to tell anyone what shady deals they’ve been up to.
Any good ol’ Brian just keeps giving them more money.
Good man. sure we didn’t want it anyway.
I wish you would all lay off these guys. The recession has hit everyone, including bankers and they ARE deserving of sympathy. I spoke to an honest man, Urquhart Fitzsimons, who failed to pay back his mortgage and ended up losing his house. Now he has to sleep in his diamond encrusted helicopter with a raccoon. Two nights ago he suffered a rape.
should have this woman on the board of directors of anglo irish, or in the department of finance for that matter. love the last two lines
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/8092942.stm
Time to assemble at Anglo Irish headquarters with flaming torches and pitchforks going “rabble rabble rabble”. Then there will have to be heads on pikes. Then we’ll head around the corner to Dail Eireann.
I wonder how many people and businesses these ‘executives’ foreclosed on? Presumably though, the properties they cannot afford to pay for are now the property of the Irish government, and will be sold when the market is once again buoyant, so as not to remain a drain on the public purse?
Silly old fucker, me!
Where’s the CAB repo man when you need him. Those bankers are really rubbing our noses in it.
We can’t govern ourselves while gangsters run the country.
Shocking.
I assume that their salaries are being garnished by 90% until the loans are repaid?
No?
Oh, I was afraid of that.
The consequences would not have been worse (then this). If it was left fall, who stood to lose?
I know of no-one who has a deposit account with Anglo. So who’s deposits are being protected by the guarantee of nationalisation. We’re protecting all the Seans Twenty, Fitzpatrick, Quinn and Dunne and their high net worth ilk.
Thats what I thought. What was Cowen on about today then? Saying it could have cost taxpayers €64bn if we hadn’t bailed it out?
He just plucked that figure out of thin air as a scare tactic “It’ll cost YOU €64 Billion, shut up,stop asking questions”- He might have said
Or Thats how much the bill for the Blackmail would cost..
Where did Anglo get the money to lend out in the first place? It wasn’t deposits, that’s for sure. Was it major international banks? If so, fuck them, let them fail.
Oh too late, we own them now.
Classic knee-jerk Irish subservience by those in high places to anything with a West Brit connection – the Anglo is the important part. Mark my words, If it had been the Gaelic Irish bank they would have been hung out to dry. 800 years of Oppression ……
Can we get the names of these people? Is there any chance that they have two friends called Brian and the whole point of the Brians insisting that we bail out Anglo was specifically to have those debts written off?
Jack – it would be interesting to see if those whose debts were written off were connected in any way to Bertie or FF.
Couldn’t we just sell all their body organs to hospitals to recoup at least some of of the misplaces cash? Yes Lenihan I’m including you.
I wouldn’t want any of their organs inside me – oh wait they did that already…
heh
Lung – we could do a fundraiser for organs like CJH did for Leninhan Sr then do what he did – pocket the cash and give him a pig’s liver.
If you heard on the radio that there was thousands of people heading to the Dail to overthrow the government, would you join them?
This is good – middle of a recession and they are for spending £100 million tarting up a marina in Bangor – a shit-hole, crap train service, full of UDA thugs and under-age drinkers – Forget Cannes, let’s go to Bangor, eat shit burgers and get glassed in a pub.
http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/breaking/2009/0610/breaking3.htm
How could they overthrow anything though? They could protest, certainly, and I’d happily join in in that case.
I seriously object to this kind of shit. It’s so outrageous that editors of fiction would reject it on grounds of being too unrealistic.
Construction jobs, maggot.
Corruption and delusions of grandeur more like Twenty – They already spent christ knows how many millions building a marina and doing the place up to “rejuvenate” the town in the 90s – despite all that in boom years it’s still a dump.
Have a look at their present website -
http://www.quaymarinas.com/marinas/bangor.asp?q=Bangor
“to make your stay at Bangor Marina as enjoyable and safe as possible”
as safe as Possible ? Advice – stay in the Marina.
Talk about bad timing — Judas only got 30 pieces of silver. Poor fucker was born in the wrong country and at the wrong time. But he did have a sense of shame, he hanged himself. The bankers could take a page from his book but don’t bet on it.
As usual you and your hangers-on are making something out of nothing. You obviously have no idea what your talking about. This government will be hailed by Historians in the future as being the one that saved this Nation at a time when the world was in the greatest peril since the 1930′s. Its all about realpolitic
I think I will stop paying my loan, and let them take me to court, I will explain that I just thought the tax payer could pay it off for me.
Oh look it’s FFer again.
So tell me FFer. What should we do with all those FF gangsters who ripped off their own countrymen in order to make themselves rich? Should we charge them with treason considering they are putting the nation in jeopardy?
What should we do with the politicians who took bribes to rezone land on which thousands of houses were built with no services for them?
What should we do with the FF politicians who took bribes to award contracts to FF friends who built toll bridges and held a city of one million to ransom for 20 years?
What should we do with FF politicians who did a deal with the church so that child abusers would not be prosecuted and the abused themselves would effectively pay towards their own compensation through tax?
What should we do with FF politicians who bail out FF builders who bankroll the FF party with my fucking money?
Tell me that you Fianna Fail cunt.
Be nice Holemaster – FF are now an endangered species !
Oh yer all so, so smarmy, blame FF for this blame FF for that, oh the workings of the simple mind. This country needed a firm hand to drag it by the boot straps out of the doldrums of the 1980′s. FF achieved this through good management of the economy, investment in homes and infrastructure. The likes of you muppets would have left us there with your socialist claptrap
I blame FF for corrupt FF politicians and their actions. And it took Dick Spring and the Tallaght strategy to get us out of the 1980s you revisionist fuckwit.
If a football team fails, gets bad results, the manager, the man in charge, rightly gets the blame and is replaced.
Same thing for governments. We really shouldn’t be engaging with you at all, you’re just a troll, but somebody has to be held accountable for the mess we find ourselves in, and are digging ourselves deeper into by the looks of things, who would suggest that is?
As regards the tallaght strategy that was Alan Dukes and FG you Moran, who saw that FF was on the right track. As for who to blame, everybody other than FF, who has tried to undermine sound fiscal and social initiatives at every turn. It sickens me how you drones continue to pontificate about subjects you obviously know so little about
Yet again avoiding the question – if someone is to be held accountable for the problems, who should it be?
The government, who presided over the whole fucking disaster, or someone else who had nothing to do with it?
I’m such a MorAn. You’re right, that was Alan Dukes. It’s been so long since FF made an effort to compromise that I had forgotten. So it was actually the joint effort of FG and FF that started to improve the economy not just FF as you claimed earlier.
So can you address my earlier points as regards political corruption which caused misery for thousands of people?
I am certainly not avoiding the question! As I said earlier any government works within the boundries of realpolitics and has many differing parties needs to satisfy and is constantly having policies beaten back by other parties agendas, thats politics. If you do not understand the subtleties of politics maybe you should confine your blog to your juvinile ponderings of a scathological nature my yahoo freind
Are you a paid up party member FFer? Know any goons in there that I can hire to collect some debts for me?
I understand fine well what has happened. You’re the one allowing your party affiliation cloud your judgement, because if you stepped back and looked at how Bertie, Cowen and Co have raped this country you’d be as angry as we are.
As I said earlier any government works within the boundries of realpolitics
Shame their education system was so bad that you cannot spell. Bad sign when people fall back on the “at least he got the railways to run on time ” excuse for supporting a monstrous regime.
AS regards political corruption, Ireland has always been corrupt, thats the way of things.Im not an apoligist for FF but being a party member I am well aware that FF has done far more than any of the other parties would have done in managing and changing that state of affairs. You people seem to believe that you live in another country, a country whose population would not be satisfied with whatever scraps their betters threw at them. This is Ireland a country with a traumatised psyche and we have a long long way to go before we achieve our true worth and this can only be achieved through FF
FFer might know the lads I know who are FF members in Co. Offaly who have openly admitted to me that being in Fianna Fail is all about business. It’s a business club, always has been. It has nothing to with leading the nation and looking after the welfare of its citizens.
It’s like China.
FFer, you reminded me of Hitler there.
Silly pub talk! FF has had the mandate of the Irish People more than any other party so please, please spare me the traitorous guff
Quit living in the past. The majority of people want FF out of government now
Traitor?
You’re a fucking joke. FF are fucking traitors to the country, using our wealth to pay off their broke buddies. Patriots my hole. That nationalist bullshit doesn’t wash anymore.
And it was no pub talk. It’s the truth and you know it.
Reading Paul Bew’s The Politics of Enmity 1789-2006 at the moment – FFer’s defence of FF reminds me of the claims made by the supporters of the 19th century landlords.
People want FF out now? Three years is a long time in politics my good man. FF WILL get back in! Do you know why, because there is no viable alternative, never has been, never will be. The Irish electorate is generally a politically illiterate electorate and they will take what they get( remember 07). Im only being so blunt because only a few disgruntled morans read your blog
De Valera Dail Eireann, 6 January 1922
“Whenever I wanted to know what the Irish people wanted, I had only to examine my own heart and it told me straight off what the Irish people wanted.”
Morans, indeed. Of course FF will get back in, because the country will get close to back on its feet again, FF will play the game as always, sneak back in and claim all the credit. The way they refuse to accept responsibility now they were only too happy to claim all the kudos for the Celtic tiger when they had done fuck all to bring it about. A happy set of coincidental circumstances more than anything they ever did.
In fact, what they actually did has us fucked now.
Plus it’s easy to spout about life in Ireland when you’re not here.
Exactly! What more can we do than aspire to emulate the great man, so look into your hearts and think of your country and maybe, maybe you will see the error of your ways
Well FFer is just highlighting that FF use the weaknesses of Irish people to exploit them. And FG is merely Diet FF. Together, they are a smoke and mirrors act to fool their own people.
Apathy has been their greatest ally. Not anymore FFer. Those days are over.
Im on holidays.
Well holemaster what new era do you envisage being ushered in?
Paid for by the taxpayer, probably.
This should be fun :
http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/breaking/2009/0610/breaking70.htm
Mr Justice Eamon deValera ?
€800 a day ? Sweet!
While she had met Mr Cullen in this capacity she could not have been described as being an FF supporter and could in fact be better described as having had “PD leanings”, counsel said.
Like saying you don’t support Man U, you support Man United.
HEH HEH! Well Im off to watch a movie. Yiz are great when your riled up and Im not being patronising. But no Im no FFer and agreed with all your comments, was just being a complete time wasting cunt, sorry. But ye know, theres not to many countries in Europe that would put up with the shit we take, yeh they all have their problems and people sit by, but they have their breaking point, but wheres ours? It just keeps coming and coming relentlessly… maybe holemaster is right and those days are over. What was it I spelt wrong maggot? Im a bit thick really
Hmm.
I’m sick of all this “lets go to Anglo HQ/Leinster House with flaming sticks” talk. Cause its only talk. We SHOULD be on the streets – EVERY WEEK. As often as we can. Can we start going about organising this? Enough talk of “them” and “they” – what about us?
Christ, there isn’t even a Facebook group for it.
But no Im no FFer and agreed with all your comments, was just being a complete time wasting cunt, sorry
Heh, that’s actually pretty funny.
That was avery entertaining timewaste FF’er..Top Marks for effort!
Fine Gael isn’t Fianna Fail Lite, it is the other centre right party and they stand for the same thing. Granted there are less stories regarding Fine Gael corruption but then again they haven’t really had much power over the last few decades so never had the chance. Aligning themselves with Labour makes them slightly more palatable to the smoked salmon socialists in Ireland but if they were to ever get into a single party government we could only expect the worst.
We have only ourselves to blame for voting FF back in the last time and the time before that. Of course nobody knows a FF voter – they are pretty much a rural party now.
I wonder if all the young culchies living away from home were to go home and vote instead of moaning that no party represents their views would we see a real change in the Irish political landscape.
Its all very well to blame the government, but I think we have to take some of the blame. How many people complained when Cowen was giving away the budjet surplus all them years? I certainly didnt because i was coming out with more money in my pocket. How many people listened to McWilliams, Lee and Hobbs? Its great in hindsight to say they were right, but we all chose to cover our ears because times were good and we had money. We should have been squirreling away some money for the inevitable rainy day instead of getting into debt. How many people bought fancy new cars on drip and now owe a fortune? If we all saved a bit of money, maybe there’d be still a some knocking around and shops wouldnt be closing down. Sure the banks are to blame for giving away money, but we took it from them. Dont get me wrong, im not defending either the government or the banks, I agree they’re a bunch of inept corrupt fuckers, but i think each of us needs to be held accountable for our own financial situation, or am i being too naiive here?
fucking andrew jaggers.
