Selfish girl

“Hello, this is the Attorney General.”

“Ahh, hello AG. What can I do for you?”

“Bit of work to throw your way.”

“Is that right? What is it? Murderer? Sexy priest? Government minister up to no good again?”

“No. Fetus.”

“Fetus.”

“Yeah. Fetus with no head.”

“Ewwww.”

“Yeah, tell me about it. Minging or what?”

“And what do I have to do?”

“Well, you have to represent it. I know it’s not born, and if it does get born it’ll die straight away, but try and get inside its head (no pun intended) and sure we’ll just go from there.”

“Right you are. This could take ages and get very complicated, couldn’t it?”

“Aye.”

“Wouldn’t it just be quicker and easier and more humane to let the girl travel to terminate her pregnancy? I mean, she is over the age where she can make medical decisions for herself and we can’t really deny her the right to travel even if she is a ward of the state.”

“Yes, but what about the headless and utterly doomed fetus. WON’T SOMEBODY THINK OF THE FETUS?”

“If only the girl was suicidal. Then we could let her go without any trouble at all.”

“Perhaps all this will make her suicidal.”

“LOL! You could be right. Here’s hoping. I know if I was carrying a baby that was deformed and had no chance of life, and I wanted to terminate the pregnancy but a bunch of pencil pushing cock-jockeys decided they knew what was best for me (and the child that has no chance of life) I think I might get a bit suicidal. She’s being very selfish keeping it all together.”

“You’re not wrong there. Where will I send the cheque?”

“Please pay by Western Union. It’s safe, I promise!”

“Fair enough so. I’ll leave you to it.”

“Good man.”

Twenty, for once you have hit the nail on the head. When will the archaic laws in Ireland re abortion be overturned.

Every case has it’s own merits and if there is no chance of a live birth how can anyone deny the right to abort?
I am not sure that abortion would ever have been an option for me but I do agree with the pro choice lobby.

It’s simple enough really, if you don’t like the idea of abortion don’t have one. But forcing this girl to incubate a dying fetus when she does not want to is barbaric.

C’mon now – the law courts are not there to be just, sensible and fair – that’s what we have Joe Duffy and Pat Kenny for.

Some deluded pro-lifer got in touch with Pat Kenny to say she was in the same position as that girl. But 16 years later the child did fairly well in the Junior cert. Just shows the standards of today’s students. If a kid with no forebrain can pass, surely anyone can!?

It looks to me as if some do gooders in the HSE decided the election was a good time to raise this debate again. I am sure that they are members of and supported by the pro lfe lobby who dont really care about the life of the Girl. Regardless lets just hope that the court sees common sense today and settles the matter once and for all.

70,000 women worldwide die of unsafe aboriton every single feckin year. Its outrageous. They wouldn’t die if safe abortion was available (WHO)

Horrendous. This situation is so clear-cut, it’s nothing short of barbaric to deny the girl what she wants.

This is just one of the things that really make me crazy! No One should have the right to deny any woman the right to choose.I hate the effing idiots who stand about preaching about babies in buckets (outside the Bank of Ireland on Dame Street.I just assume that not only are they likely to have never had a decent ride but they have never found themselves in that dark and (in this country)very lonely place some of these young women find themselves. The hypocrisy of this case makes me particularly sick.
    Fuck off pro life bastards!
Oh lord I’m going to hell now!..hope there’s a bar.

… and its a well stocked bar little sappling. So fear not, we’ll all be nice and toasty and merrily drunk. We’ll also be able from where we are to look up the skirts of angels.

Lets face it…it’s a religious based law that stops abortion. It should be a medical decision full stop. Religion is probably the biggest evil in the world.

dieting is bad for girls littlesapling. think of the stress involved in buying a whole new wardrobe (although if you lose enough weight, you might fit in a footlocker instead).

fully pro choice, although i will say that, as with everything, people should be fully informed of the consequences of the choice they make.

so fucking hypocritical of state (and church) to prevent people from making this choice when they fail so miserably to provide decent hospital care or schools for the children that are currently here, not to talk of future kids. cunts

What has stopped that girl from getting on a plane or boat and going where she liked to do what she liked.
Hundreds if not thousands have done so in the past..this is how it used to go..!

Shur I hear your Kathleen is of to England tommorow.

Aye shur you heard right, mee sister Nora got her a job nursing in london.

Shur she’ll be well able for it, that bit of weight she put on lately suits her.

Aye shur it does, she says she’s going on a diet in England.

Shur is there anyone going to Dublin to see her off.

Aye shur is, the Priest, teacher,Publicans son,Farmers two sons, in one car,the Cobbler and his son, they’r both so fond of her, the widow Ryan is going with them two to keep them from fighting, the tinker Joyce’s lad is going in his own SUV Ranger Rover, they’r going to make sure she goes.

    THREE MONTHS LATER!

Shur I see Kathleen is back from England.

Aye shur she is, she didn’t like the things they write in the papers over there about fellows doing things to each other in bushes, not like our local paper, where they mind they’r own business.

Shur she’s lost a lot of weight I think.

Aye shur she has, but she says that when she gets out and about she’ll soon put it back on again.

    Shur that’s the way.

    Aye shur it is.

The truly screwed up thing is that the state is also arguing that the HSE can’t stop her from travelling. So the state is arguing that the state is wrong, while also representing a foetus.

  21. Medbh
    May 3rd, 2007 @ 1:37 pm

What a witty “fuck you” to the anti-choicers!
On top of the madness of not letting her get the abortion is that the state still thinks it can do whatever it wants to Ms. D while she’s in Ireland. Subjecting her to a litany of invasive psychological and physical testing to control and punish her and removing her ability to make her own medical decisions is an outrage.

  22. MacDara
    May 3rd, 2007 @ 1:56 pm

I think the reason she could not go was lack of Money. She was requesting that the HSE pay for the trip and the abortion as she is in their care that is how the whole issue arose. Instead of just saying no to the funding ( They have paid in the past) some busy body with no understanding of the needs of the Girl also brought the case.

Go figure last month they were not bothered about the danger to two young kids because it was the weekend and now they are only worried about a life that cannot exist outside the womb and fuck the young girl going through it.

You see, this is one of those times where a big giant would be handy. This little giant lets us do our own thing until we (the state/HSE) lose the run of ourselves (HSE) and he just slaps and wallops the people concerned (HSE/Jump-on-the-bandwagon-lawyers)takes the poor girl on the shoulders and sorts it all out. A benevelent Giant if you will, a bit like Grizzly Adams and with a bigger bear to take care of Berties and his cronies
