Kevin Myers and the bastard children of Ireland

Posted in Old blogger by Twenty Major on February 10th, 2005

I have to say I found Kevin Myers’ article about the children of unmarried mothers in Ireland being bastards ridiculously offensive and short-sighted.

It’s a new low for the Irish Times and shows an incredible lack of judgement. I mean I’m sure some of these children are bastards but you can be quite sure there’s a smattering of cunts, a plethora of feckless pricks, a gansey load of gobshites and an unholy alliance of poxy wankers.

Shame on you for neglecting to mention them, Myers, shame on you.

    Kevin Myers, bastard in the true sense of the word.What a misogynistic fuckwit he is.No mention of the men who also help create these children…no it is soley the mother’s fault. Why only ‘MoBs? Why not Fobs, or ever Gobs (Grandparents of…)SoBs,Bobs….He could extend it to fit the miasma of his putrid thoughts.
    Yes there are people who use the social welfare system, but are they all teenagers? Are they all women? For a fifty something year old hack to wax lyrical about the mindset of ever teenage girl in Ireland is faintly ridiculous.Or it would have been if he wasn’t the hack of a paper with a very wide readership. The fact that he is cringing and mewling today proves that he doesn’t even have the strength of his day to day convictions. His vernacular was vile, his use of the word bastard- an antiquated expression at best- shows how out of touch he really is. The fact that he uses it both in ‘A literal and metaphorical sense’ proves to this cat that he knew full well how offensive he was being. Oh, and his editor, hatchet face Geraldine dererves a few licks of the whip too.

    Dear zoom, I read the piece as it was linked from Twenty’s web, I re-read it this morning and I still haven’t noticed a FoB bashing, perhaps I’m not seeing the whole article. If so, my apologies.

    Before you start… I am not defending the use or misuse of the word ‘bastard’ but what about the points Kevin Myers raised.

    We wrote to every TD on the same issue last year. They also pretended that they did’nt understand.

    “Brides of the State
    Open letter sent to all TDs and Senators exposing in graphic terms how the state is distorting and undermining marriage with its subsidy of illegitimacy that is denying young men the opportunity to marry. Please read it for yourself at;
